  1. Given the cost of boating in general and the hassle that a copy key might bring surely it's worth just buying a genuine one? Oh and the chap I met at sawley lock was very grateful that my genuine key allowed him passage as his copy key wouldn't turn in the control panel.... Cheers Gareth
  2. Tuckeys?? Cheers. Gareth
  3. Would that be peter jones who used to run tours when terry was running the boat?....the names familiar but it was a while ago....I worked for Ric & Jenny from Ribbon Plate restaurant boats running the aqueduct trips. Cheers Gareth
  4. I'm afraid not...it's 16 years since I was doing it!....it was a guy called Terry when I was there but I think he sold the business. Cheers Gareth
  5. As I said earlier having run trip boats up there I'm afraid you have to be a bit bullish otherwise any schedule you may have isn't going to happen....you also have to deal with a lot of new hirers and make your intentions clear....it isn't a place to show weakness! Cheers Gareth
  6. That just might result in a maib investigation as it's made the press....having run a trip boat there I wouldn't like to say who was to blame....it's also worth noting that two boats can't pass on the arm as you leave Trevor....thankfully that wasn't me that found that! Cheers Gareth
  7. Be warned that when I contacted Morris oils they did not reccomend using ankersol added to existing antifreeze to extend the life. When I get 5 mins I will find the original thread cos I posted their reply on it. Edited to add For once the search function worked! http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=71418&hl=%2Bmorris+%2Bantifreeze I'll let you all make your own minds up....I'm still changing my antifreeze every two or so years! Cheers Gareth
  8. The toilet is held onto a flange by four special bolts. The flange is then screwed to the tank. There is a rubber gasket between the flange and toilet. The four bolts do have a habit of corroding and snapping. If you google dometic or sealand traveler then you should find a parts diagram. Most chandlers sell the spares. The bolts aren't that cheap I'm afraid! Cheers Gareth Edited to add The bolts I mentioned have special heads which slot into the flange. Then nuts hold the toilet to the flange.
  9. Just a small point..sounds like your victron has the default voltage sensing absorption setting still on...this is pants! You need to keep it on absorption for at least 5-8 hours to get the last bit of charge into the batteries. Otherwise you will start to sulphate your Trojans quite quickly. I know it's tricky with a genny but I'm afraid it's how all batteries work. You can change the modes using the DIP switches inside the unit or much easier if you have the PC interface. Cheers Gareth
  10. Standard tap fittings don't work but the polyplumb hand tighten ones are a joy to use...never had so much as a drip on all the boats I've used them on. Cheers Gareth
  11. I use these http://www.plumbase.co.uk/polyplumb-hand-tighten-tap-100008071-2204463 Work a treat..seals on a rubber washer...not the threads...used it on my pump...toilets...etc Other suppliers are available....the link was first web hit I found. Midland chandlers used to do them....as did rose narrowboats. Cheers Gareth
  12. Sounds like this was fun on the Thames.....anybody have any further info? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-32351654 Cheers Gareth Edited to add Apologies.....just seen a thread has already been started in "Waterways News" http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=75470#entry1553331
  13. Mine does that! I had all mine rebuilt a couple of years ago...so all the gears are in good nick...don't think it's anything to worry about given the amount of "interface" parts in a blackstone box...including the reduction box etc. Cheers Gareth
  14. I always flush several times when doing that....something that some people find tricky when emptying elsans at our sluice in the marina...I've lost count of the times I've had to wash that down when emptying my elsan over the winter. It does annoy me that people that self pump out get told off for using them. There are thoughtless people in both camps! Hope they get castle field sorted soon....it might help if they put a refuse point there as well... Cheers Gareth
  15. Well this is better than any telly soap opera! Carry on! Cheers Gareth
  16. Please don't judge my reactions....
  17. I use inches...pints and miles...and I'm really not pro EU! I was taught metric at school....but never use it....and it used to annoy my teachers a lot! Not sure how that fits your profile...... Cheers Gareth
  18. I'm fully aware of wide boats on the lower GU but I don't think any of them worked as high as Blisworth....although I stand to be corrected.... Just as another point....do they have to pay now for a tunnel passage as they are tying up CRT resources or is it all done with volunteers? I'm not anti wide beam boats but they need to be on a suitable waterway....and I'm not sure one primarily designed for a pair of narrowboats is suitable.......if I wished to limit myself to such a suitable waterway I would consider a wide beam....although never a "fat" narrowboat....why would you when there are much better looking wide craft? And yes it is one of my gripes....hey ho....afraid I'm not changing my views anytime soon but if I keep going on it might make people think about the history of the cut...the reason things are as they are...... and the type of boat they might purchase. As for penis envy......please!....I've never suffered that either with chattels or in person. Cheers Gareth
  19. What he said! Cheers Gareth
  20. That's annoying...it was very useful. And you could do a self pump out there easily....and before I get shot down I always have left every SS cleaner than when I arrived...hope it's fixed before June!! Cheers Gareth
  21. If I have to explain that then you really don't have any idea of the history of the cut. Cheers Gareth
  22. Reasonable would be a boat that's suited to the navigation concerned.....I'm not sure needing the tunnel reserved especially for you counts as this..... Cheers Gareth
  23. Glad your getting it sorted and Keith is earning his money!.....at least you now know it wasn't a simple button push to get it working. Cheers Gareth
  24. Fair point! Although I'm sure in some instances they belonged to the group they were moaning about!! Cheers Gareth
  25. Well if you think I'm a troll I'm sorry to tell you I'm very real and easy to spot....my boats my avatar and I'm the big hairy bloke standing on the back of it usually! And when I'm not at my home mooring I'm travelling round the system talking to people and I'm afraid CC'ers taking the pee and the CM'ers don't seem to attract much sympathy from all areas of the boating spectrum. Cheers Gareth
