  1. I think the signs may be aimed at the dog owners.
  2. Can't help on location but the horse towing it looks more like a bull or ox to me. Large head and horns.
  3. Are you sure its ducks and not pigeons roosting in the tree at night.
  4. I was puzzling last week over the vertical while marks on bridges on the L&L which are not quite in the centre of the arch. The penny dropped and I realised that they mark the centre of the actual canal rather than the bridge which of course includes the towpath. I guess these make it easier to line up a wide beam.
  5. Many thanks for all the helpful replies. Unfortunately the window had been fitted with a lot of mastic and we damaged it while removing it. In the end I bought a replacement unit from Wesley Windows who were very helpful. This is now installed and hopefully I'm now weather tight again. Thanks again for all the helpful advice. It's good to know that I can always rely on CWDF to help when I'm stuck.
  6. Thanks for that link. If the local glazier can't sort it I'll give them a call.
  7. Thanks Robbo. After spending 2 hours picking up tiny fragments of glass I've already decided thats the way to go.
  8. Thanks for that. Looking at the other window it is toughened glass which is a pain. Do you know if it has to be toughened or would laminated glass be OK.
  9. Thanks. It’s screwed in from the outside so shouldn’t be too hard to remove.
  10. Thanks guys. It’s the lower half of one of these. I expect once the frame is removed the bar can be removed to slot the new glass in. I’ve arranged for a mate to bring me a sheet of Perspex as a temporary fix then I can take the frame to a glazier who should be able to cut to fit. Thanks. I’ll give them a try
  11. Just managed to smash a window. Anyone know of a boat glazier near Leeds who could help as RCR and my insurers can’t help
  12. Don't mention the pork pies. If I have any more I'll need a wide beam
  13. Another vote for Edwardian bed co. I've been sleeping on mine every night for 4 years and it's still very comfortable

  15. Popped down to say hello but must have missed you. Hope the experience doesn't put you off as it's a beautiful canal and a very nice little market town. I'm biased as I'm a Yorkshireman.
  16. I've been moored in Skipton for around 10 days on the moorings between the two swing bridges to the Liverpool side of the basin. It's been very quiet with no bother from the local youth. The canal to the Leeds side of the basin looks less inviting, I think this is near the car park Frangar mentioned.
  17. Hi, Yes, in that context headroom is the same as air-draft.
  18. Pennies are only legal tender up to the amount of 20p. And even then a vendor is not required to accept legal tender. For example many small shops have signs saying they do not accept £50 notes. A £50 note is legal tender but they not are legal required ton accept it.

  20. As others have said it seems very high. My 55' 16 ton boat with a Lister LPWS 4 averages 1.5 l/ph.
  21. I understand they realised that the skip in the building is too small and, as mentioned above, a larger skip was placed in the pub carpark with the pubs agreement. Unfortunately, this facility was abused, possibly by locals. When I passed in May this year the bin was surrounded by mattresses, furniture etc. Needless to say the pub was not happy and withdrew their offer to put the skip on their land. CART have reopened the old facility but is seems this is already being misused again.
  22. So you are saying that the group had pulled over to let you pass and that you struggled to control your boat in the wind. Perhaps the conditions were not suitable for narrow boats. I moored up early than planned today as a vicious cross wind was making navigation difficult.
  23. Nice to see the local council is spending money maintaining the tow path. I wish more would help this way
