  1. Identical problems to those I had some years ago with my BMC 1.8.There was absolutely no sign of a fuel leak but all the symptoms of air in the system. I even had the pump and injectors overhauled. In the end I pressurized the drained fuel lines and spotted very small bubbles at a joint. Remade the joint with a new fitting and BINGO problem solved. Try it, all you need is a bike pump and a bit of rubber tube. Frank
  2. I used SML Ballistic bitumen. I already had the better part of 10l in the shed and I bought a further 10L some months ago. Think it was about £75. I've used it for the last 3 blackings and wouldn't use anything else
  3. I was out there about 2 weeks ago. £195 in/out, (I think) , 4 nights on slip £160, electric £10, 6 anodes welded £60, =£425 Additionally power wash and blacking labour £170. I supplied the blacking.

  5. As a very short term measure, say 30 minutes running at slow speed, can I blank off the oil cooler pipes on my PRM 150 box. If so does anyone know the thread sizes of the tappings. I stress it would only be for while I return to my permanent mooring. I'm not on the boat so can't physically check. An alternative might be to connect the two tappings but I don't know what pressure the box works at. Many thanks Frank

  7. Must have been in 1972 then. Does anyone else remember them appearing at Little Venice .
  8. I remember seeing the submarine and maybe the distroyer at Little Venice one year. I would have put it a few years earlier, late 60's?.

  10. I suspect that the welding marks you can see forward of the boss is the bracket in question. To the OP. I can understand your confusion. I replaced the sterntube and shaft in my NB last week and before I did so i always imagined the sterntube was considerably longer than the 7.5 inches it turned out to be (no titters please) It was only when I got all the components in my hands that all became apparant. I imagine that will be added when they lift the hull.
  11. That is a carbon copy of my life in DIY terms. My latest additiòns to my toolbox arrived yesterday, a gas brazing kit and a cordless impact driver
  12. I am the worlds greatest hoarder. It's easier to climb the Matterhorn than get into my 20' x 10' workshop. My advice is use it as a mudweight. You'll never find any bits you might remove.

  14. For some it's not so much a deal breaker as a back breaker.

  16. Go to the Folly, get ######, fall in the canal on the way back to your boat and you've got slight chance of making the local paper {whatever that may be.
  17. I was just about to say that Seemingly it's all to do with 'nasties' leaching out of the plastic bottles.
  18. Starter clicks and smokes. Can the engine be turned over with a spanner on the crankshaft?, As for the electrician , hardly an ideal solution but I would have thought than an auto electrician would be a better bet than a house electrician.
  19. Tried to open site but it looks as if it's been taken down. Shame

  21. And that's the main point!. I presently have a Candy 3.5/4 Kg washing machine which will run, unfailingly off of shorepower, my Mastervolt 2000 w combi or my Pagaro 4 kva cacooned diesel generator. Previously I had a Hoover washer/dryer which ran when it wanted to. It wasn't the dryer part that gave the problems it was the washing side of things. I know (or think i know) the reasons but the end result was a right pain in the ****.
  22. I'm laying here in bed trying to get to sleep and I think I have found the answer... This topic as started by the OP. I strongly suspect he's trying to show how clever he is! Good night ?
  23. As a clue. Earlier today for a replacement flywheel housing/rear mounting, register plate and gearbox adaptor (PRM 150) and a few bolts I paid about £600. All for BMC 1.8
  24. I have just (6 hours ago) come off the slip having blacked my boat. It was last blacked 18 months ago with SMC Ballistic. There was no evidence of rust whatsoever. A really high powered jet wash followed by a wire brushing on the waterline was all that was needed. I 'felt' that it might have lasted another 6 mònths or so but wouldn't have wanted to leave it any longer (just gut feeling). A slightly grimey Frank
