  1. Try 01283533122 Chains Direct Burton on Trent area, do good quality chain at very competitive prices + free post to the UK. If your chain is 3/8`s Lo Pro, I would suggest a OREGON VXL Type 91 as a very good cutting & quality chain & cheaper than most others[ NOT a safety chain though it`s a pro chain they cut much better/faster than safety chain, if you feel you must have safety chain then Oregon Vanguard but they will advise you as to your needs just need to quote chain size & drive link number It may give you all the info on the guide bar Stihl is very good chain but more expensive]
  2. If you have no joy with obtaining one, Try googling the Stationary engine/ Tractor forums, some Bolinder/Munktel tractors are fitted with a very similar to the 1052 engine, & there are several guys on the stationary sites that produce gaskets for engines that spares are NLA
  3. I have with a loaded pair, had to double lock on several trips as the standard brick/stone locks walls had bulged in after the early 60`s bad winter[i think the width was reduced to about 6`6``]In fact IIRC I never used the stone lock until they closed the steel one
  4. Engine room paint scheme on FMC boat I used to own was Mid Brunswick Green up to gunnal height & Cream above +roof unpainted alu checker plate floor plate, Paint was gloss
  5. IIRC the tent on the bank was part of the fibreglass cruisers owners mooring set up, he kept his lawnmower, spare gas bottles & picnic equipment under the canvas tent like gazebo thing. Straying slightly is the moored converted narrowboat ex FMC ADMIRAL seems I remember it looking like that as it came from Charity dock & owned by the Clegg family. Possibly the load on ACTIS was bales of hemp we were asked to do two loads but the contract fell through for reasons I cannot remember
  6. Didn`t Len Walton build a hull that he sold off with no cabin in 1957/8ish looks to have similar lines could this possibly be that hull with some one else`s cabin build
  7. The double headed windless [the same or very similar to yours]used to be on sale at boatyards/chandlers in the early /mid 60`s. IIRC Ladyline seemed to have some dealings in the wholesale side, as I remember on a piling run from Drayton to Coven, I was asked to drop a sack full off at SUC at Norbury & also the boatyard at cut end[ I remember that Sam [Lomas] didn`t rate them very highly

    Gearbox

Could it be that this gearbox was attached to a Ducati lump which did as most did & failed miserably, to have been re placed by the Lister, which maybe came without a gear box. As from the photo`s it looks to have been modified some [iIRC the Ducati didn`t have mountings/fixings on the back end of the box ] Just a thought
  10. Many years ago when marine toilets were still allowed on the canal system [they were thinking of bringing in the ban] as part of the tests etc to check the water quality, samples were take at intervals from Horseshoe falls to the inlet for Hurleston Res, with all the STUFF pumped in ,sink water etc, Farm animal & field drainage the findings were the water was purer at the Res end than at the source. Some thing to do with different bactria cancelling each other out
  11. Possibly the cabin top placement of the stern line is from working pairs days, with Snubbers, Snatchers, & Cross Straps, being used at one time or another the last thing you needed was another line laying on the counter, as you hang one or the other on the dollie/s. I do not like the hanging on the tiller pin stern line[cos it mucks up the brass] but to each his own.

    Tinytach

I have one at this moment in time fitted to a Talbot Express 2.5 turbo based Camping Car/ Motor Caravan, fitted it in 2004 & it is still working as new. Can`t remember the model No, but it`s the update every half second model, the franchise guy over here[FRANCE]said that he thought the 1 sec update model would be to slow a reading, think IIRC it was 5 or so more euro`s than the standard model. Also a tip he gave me, make sure the spot on the injector pipe is CLEAN he said to polish it with [brasso/T cut/ Solvol autosol ] before fitting the sensor Excellent piece of kit.
  14. Some of the hulls used by Dobsons were moulded by BOURNE PLASTICS
  15. There was a shop on the Radford side of Lemington that still sold either the Lord W or something very similar, up until the mid 60`s they were similar in appearance to the modern day PUKKA pies although containing very little or no meat the insides were similar to Cornish pasties [ carrots, peas, potatos, sometimes green beans.]They were rectangular with rounded corners & came in a cardboard tray. IIRC there were 2 sizes the smaller ones were 4d & the larger ones 6d. With a bit of meat & extra gravy they made a reasonable meal.Used to always ask if they were fresh, to which always came the reply, Fresh in this morning, Can not remember ever being ill from eating those ones.
  16. Didn`t Dennis Clarke pass away before Jess Owen. Or have I got that wrong
  17. One method used classic furniture restoration use a piece of wood of same type ie. pine, oak, etc. & use a belt or similar sander to make a heap of sanding dust. Mix with glue[in your case waterproof ]to a paste &press into cracks/splits, sand off when dry, & finish
  18. Re dates for Springers being made.LILY was dry docked at Charity dock in 1966 & Joe Gilbert had to re flood the dock to get a Springer in to repair a hole punched in the bow below the waterline, & I remember the owner muttering about it not being very good, as it was less than a year old.So it would appear to have been built in 1965.
  19. From the photo`s it looks very like a SUC boat from late 60`s early 70`s that has had the GRP cabin removed & replaced with a totally different shaped one [wood/steel?] the Lister SR3 would tie in to that too

  21. The Capt Twentyman refered to in post#1 was my late wifes Grand father & the quote Twentymen +boy/dog was a standing family joke. The same family were also involved in the Cumberland Pencil company, & I think that some family squabble led to grandpa taking the nautical way of life
  22. The first time I boated through Stoke Bruerne after buying LILY [early 60`s] As i pulled in by the lock JJ came out of his cottage& enquired who owned the boat & who had done the rope work. When I said it was me in both cases, he shook his head & asked when & if I was coming back that way. saying yes & in about a week, he replied I`ll look out for you. On returning he more or less ordered me to tie up & the next day completely re rigged my boat, Rebuilding the cratch & he had made up sets of top & side cloth strings + mooring lines etc. When I asked how much I owed him, He was most offended, saying that payment would be me keeping it all up together, The impression I got was woe betide me if I didn`t. My dealing with him over the years I found him to be a true gentleman
  23. Is your exhaust lagged? A friends boat had a similar problem & he found a leak at the joint[ between pipe & silencer] & at certain revs the exhaust blowing through the lagging was making a whistling noise
  24. Did your SEFFLE ever have the [Glowplug] engine heater & the compression bleed/ air start mech. The one I had in LILY had a bracket bolted to the front of the cylinder with a Bosch dynamo mounted & a belt around the flywheel, a switch on the bracket to supply power to the plug . Approx 1to2 mins to heat enough to start. Still had the pin in the flywheel if all else failed. I became very fond of that motor
