  1. I think you will find that`s MORRIS not MORRISONS they do a lot of oils suitable for older/ vintage engines
  2. Have you checked that your prop shaft spins freely with the gearbox in neutral? When running in gear doe`s the stuffing box end of the stern tube get hot?
  3. The penetrating oil I`ve had the best results with is a DIY mixture 50/50 acetone & auto trans fluid[ATF]
  4. That was my thought as well & I couldn`t come up with a reason to use the line + shortening up about half way through the video Would have thought it was less hassle on cross straps
  5. If my brain fade is not to advanced I seem to recall Patricia being a sort of hostel boat,{ like Pamala] in the mid late 60`s if not that, the times I saw it on the move there always seemed to be a good few students/young people working the locks walking the towpaths etc. Could be wrong, maybe several families.
  6. iIRC in his time at Stourport he either was or was part of Sirrus Yachts/boats. Yes there was one of his built boats at Langley Mill in 87/88 it used to moor about 4/5 boats up past the drydock office/shed on the Eastwood side of the cut
  7. Some years back a [Plonker] bought a bungalow quite near to Donnington race circuit & not only wanted the racing & testing curtailed but wanted the circuit closed. Best part, East Midlands airport is next door, even so it`s no engine noise before 8am & after 6pm from Donnington Park[ It really makes you wonder]

  9. I have been involved in remedial work on several boat that had been stretched & the places they joined up were a bit [Dogs hind leg]I don`t know that they couldn`t get through locks although I know that one of them got stuck in Hurleston on one occasion
  10. I can not remember the boats name but if Lamprey was worked by a chap called Malcolm for Anderton CCCo on the silicon carbide run to Norbury in the late sixties then it was at that time fitted with an AS2 The boats on that run worked by Charlie Atkins[snr], Fred & Rose Gibbs, & Jack Tolley & Wife [Leah I think] & the single motor a Josher fish class steered by Malcolm
  11. In the late 50`s a BW employee lived in it. I had a gap of 3 years before travelling that way again & it was vandalised & boarded up.Don`t know if the guy retired or died. Was demolished IIRC in 1964/65 but if anyone knows different for sure & I`m wrong I stand corrected as it`s a while ago & my memory of late is a bit suspect
  12. The way the strings were fastened in the video clip was the way I was shown/ taught

  14. Not a problem at all I still have some copies & as there is nothing scandalous on them feel free, it`s so long ago I have to engage brain to remember what it was like.
  15. Maybe it was Dereck Turners [the Wheaton Aston garage guys] boat FOX as he was moored near at the time[ I was moored on the towpath with Lily & Pisces was breasted up] IIRC that Turner was powerful, only trouble when it was wound on you couldn`t see anything for smoke[ I think I sent you slides with Smoke in progress
  16. IIRC Binkie bought a butty [Can`t remember type or name ] for his son who was going to set up a boat painting & sign writing business I dont know if it was a success or other wise but it would tie in with Derek R`s post
  17. You are correct in that. I joined in early 1966 & Binkie was the driving force in getting it up & running, so they made him chairman, I think he was retired so had more time than most other members, & it was called in those days Narrow Boat Owners Club. I had left the canal system before the Historic bit was added

  19. When I was employed fitting engines & mechanical bits at Fairey Marine, the Sabre units fitted to Spearfish were painted the [green/ blue]as in the OP`s photo, In the time I was there I fitted out some 35 boats [ 70 engines ]& all were that colour I never saw a white one. IIRC this was a SABRE colour as the Perkins engines were that colour too Oop`sorry I misread Ct`s post
  20. SABRE version based on FORD D series, 5416cc`s, 330 cu inch, base version 100bhp @2500rpm, 242lbs ft torque.they then went up in various stages, of turbo charging , inter cooling, to some thing in the region of 250 bhp. I think you will find it`s ohv via pushrods rather than overhead cam
  21. If the way you have it ballasted means the bottom of the counter sits at the water level or just under with the boat stationary, you should have no problems as the boat will pull down when under way, only with the counter out of the water when moving are you likely to get cavitation
  22. Looks very similar to the BIJOU LINE boats they had a hire base at Penkridge + the earlier ones had a grp top
  23. When we were on the gas line contract late 60`s I`m pretty sure that a BCN boat with that name was used. IIRC it was used to ferry a small Massey F tractor about that was used for filling in the trench after the pipe was layed & welded. Later I think it was made into the[breakfast boat, wriggly iron porta cabin, large propane gas cyl, multiple burner gas ring etc.,+ 1 irishman about retirement age known to all as ``the boy`` ]
  24. Could you possibly aquire & use a mechanical box [Hurth . Tecno?]as they will operate at very low revs as you don`t have to build up pressure to operate it. Not exactly the same set up but a guy I know fitted a cardon shaft to the back of a 3cyl RUSTON & used a Hurth box about 1ft forward of the stern coupling
  25. The number of teeth is not a factor in [safety/pro non low kickback chain] the difference is on the part of chain in front of the teeth/cutter Low Kick back has a longer ramped part along side or near the Raker[ the little tab in front of the tooth]the pro chain just has the raker
