  1. That's just another assumption on your part, and wrong too. In fact it was C&RT who had the 'bad experience', and they're currently prolonging it even more by attempting to persuade the Court that they should be let off paying my costs. You clearly haven't 'got it', and you're not even coming close.

  2. UNLESS... CRT get off their arses and enforce the CC rules. If they did that properly there would be little or no problem. And by properly I mean stop accepting this 'two miles every 14 days' rubbish as bona fide for navigation. It clearly isn't and it's time CRT grew some balls, said so and stood their ground over it. (Ready for the incoming......!) MtB

  3. Don't worry about the extra cost, they will put the licence up to cover it.

  4. Not got time to get to Bath this weekend, but will bear tat in mind when next down there Yes tend to agree with the locks, was planning just to go to the round house, but we might need a pub to walk to rather than just sitting outside round a fire, in which case Kinver it will be. Sundays weather is supposed to be better

  7. I think I needed to word the question differently. Regardless of the blacking, the questions should have been:- Does the whole hull need pressure washing for a survey? Is spot cleaning for an ultrasound thickness test acceptable? Do all surveyors ask for full cleaning as a matter of course? What are your personal experiences of this? I assume the surveyor will clean any small areas that are of particular interest to him for a detailed examination anyway? The boat is due for blacking but will have to wait a bit as budget currently reached and the boatyard don't charge slipway fee if they do it so whether I do in now or in a few months it won't cost any more. Thanks

  8. Spectacularly missing the point of the question. Of course it NEEDS blacking, the question is about who pays!!! The OP is not committed to buying, and if the survey result is bad why should they pay for it to be blacked? MtB

  9. Then don't let them intercept your traffic, make sure it's encrypted. You should be doing this anyway if you value your privacy. I use the 3 PAYG bundle "all in one 15" For £15 you get 300 minutes 3000 texts and unlimited data. I use about 60 gig per month while tethering. All you can eat buffet means you can eat until you don't want to eat any more. All you can eat data means you can use as much data as you want. If it isn't unlimited then don't sell it as unlimited. There is nothing greedy about it at all.

  10. no true scotsman boater would be interested in cheap housing. Rubbish. I live on my boat as a means of cheap housing. I want the canal system to survive so that I can continue to live on it cheaply.

  11. Guys, I think we need to go a bit easy here. It might all be obvious to us but as the OP says, he's a newbie on a very limited budget. He came here to ask for some advice and has received a fair bit of mickey taking and sarcasm. You might say he should have done more homework first, but he hasn't actually bought the boat yet and that's why he posted here, to get some advice. As far as the latter goes, and if you are serious about buying a boat on what is a very very very tight budget, I would stop the bus, forget about the one in Pontypridd, and do a lot more reading first (about licensing, BSS, mooring options etc). This forum is as good a place to start as any, just browse through the threads, FAQ etc. The other bit of advice I would give you is not to just consider the initial outlay, there will be an annual cost (even if you keep it in your garden), so please factor that into your calculations and feasibility. When I first started out I researched for over 2 years, including visiting many boatyards to look at options, before finding the right boat. I hope you find what you're looking for, but remember the old saying: buy in haste, repent at leisure! Edit: thumbs
