  1. (Apologies initially for a straight "cut and paste"from my Facebook open group page.) Well, it seems it wasn't to be - a shame really, as I would really have liked to take this on. Actually though, for myself I am pleased to have fared so well in what I never felt was going to be an even match with the candidates being promoted by the boating associations. From my initial interpretation of the results, I made it to 8th out of 33 candidates. I did considerably better than two of the IWA candidates, the NABO candidate and the AWCC candidate, (and am frankly not a little surprised by this!). I have been overwhelmed by the number of people prepared to place me high on their list, who I have never had the opportunity to meet, and who would not have heard of me before this election. To get over 330 first preference votes is much appreciated, and I'm very sorry I can not represent those prepared to have such confidence in me. My sympathies to the other independents who tried hard, and were making the right noises. Maybe see some of you again 4 years from now! Once again, my extreme thanks to those who have supported me. Alan EDIT I now reckon I was "only 8th not 7th. The spreadsheet fails to show the final candidate's name eliminated, which wrong footed us.....

  2. Well none of the people we voted for got in, and we are less than impressed with those who were elected. We ran through the candidtaes schedule and all those elected had a negative comment alongside, so we are less than happy with the outcome. Thinking about it I think that Alan, Dave, Peter, Andy, et al are probably well out of it, but I do think it might be a good idea if, perhaps, a couple of the failed candidates kept a watchfull eye on the Council, and advised us if things are not being approached in the best interest of boaters. We could then form our own hybrid Boater's 38 degrees and give them hell if they do not represent boaters in the way we think they should. It has worked with the Govb=ernment so why not a bit of people power on the Waterways?

  6. Oh if only we all could always put ourselves in the shoes of those we encounter in such a manner the world would be much more pleasant. Well done you. arf

  7. Both of which are standard and you will find in the constitution of any property owning organisation. Without them the organisation would not be able to operate. Why did you pick those two to highlight? Your last sentence is far to vague in the following ways to tell what you mean. they appear to - well did they or didnt they? taken the guidance - what guidance? You could mean they read the guidance material provided by the commission or that they applied for Charitable Status and were refused for some reason. changed it - what specifically did they change It's hard to tell if you're being deliberately vague or you just have a poor understanding of organisational constitutions, charity compliance and business practices. Would you let me know which it is please?

  8. I'd be happy to translate Alan's election address into Latin in 2016 if it would help.

  9. oh for goodness sake - did you read the other posts on this thread? It may already be properly constituted as a charity already - you would have to examine the governing documents to find out. to ensure the assets are safeguarded and can only be used to further the purpose of the organisation

  13. I have a little cabin cruiser and last week popped down to check on her and started up as usual mercury 15hp outboard warmed her up checked oil etc... Well yesterday the plan for all this nice weather was a little cruise for lunchtime and then a full day today with the kids etc litle bit of lunch and fishing etc anyway yesterday we started her up to warm up pulled the tarpaulin off filled water cans (for tea) and while i was doing this the engine just stopped , thought that was odd started her up again ran for a bit then stopped then what ever i did i couldnt start her up again.. Well trip abandoned and i set about trying to fix the engine as my last one was an old 2 stroke that went kaput with a carb fault i brought this shiny second hand mercury 4 stroke with electric start !! had only been on for a few months so a bit early for it to go wrong and i was getting a little cheesed off but assumed it perhaps was something simple... Checked all the fuel line checked fuel pump everything good , checked posistion of throttle stick as it wont start in gear(caught out before) check..Tried to take the plugs out only to find they were 18m socket the only one i dont possess!! checked wiring all good still would start but would occasionally spluttter ? got pretty frustrated and called it a night as halfords was closed so could nt get the right plug socket.. Well today i got a spanner and headed down to the boat tried starting it just in case with no joy took a plug out it looked ok cleaned it up and replaced couldnt check the spark as i was on my own so couldnt turn key and check the plug after reading the forums etc and from what i knew it did sould like a fuel problem anyway so i took the carb apart and cleaned the jets checked the filters. Put it all together and still no joy on starting.. The missus came down so i could finally check the plugs - no spark here we go, checked all the wiring again thought it was odd for the coils or ecm to go belly up still not starting but even worse as it wasnt even tring to start !! Anyway im about lost my temper with the boat it seemed it was going cost me even more money - who ever said that boat stands "for bung on another thousand" was right !! im thinking all sorts of things like just selling it getting rid of it (dont like stress) . At that point for some reason it just clicked, i have a dead mans swicth tucked away on the front of the controll panel that you cant really see that you attach a lanyard in case you fall out ??? i checked this switch and some how it was sitting in the middle neither on or off couldnt see how as it sits in a shielded box but i clicked it up into the on postion tried the engine and it started lol i was very relieved to say the least, still cant work out how it had clicked to the middle by itself but must have been caught somehow or vibrations... Anyone the day had almost gone so me and the missus only got a quick 2 hour cruise to fenny lock and back then at that point i realised how much i liked boating and how much the missus enjoys it and i could never really see the old boat gone... I supose the moral of my story is never give up on something as just sometimes it can be something very simple.... james

  14. Well just for Rick's information, this thread would have fallen off the board 15 months ago, if the alleged comedians hadn't kept bumping it to the top. I haven't noticed any keen females keeping the thread alive. Perhaps you should state that you're looking for someone with 2 GSOHs...Then you can have one each.

  15. You might be better looking on dating forums for proposing this trip as opposed to here, that being the case... Most of the women here already have a partner and/ or boat and are not looking for a blind date.

  16. The fishists were out in force today on the W&B near Stoke Prior. One screamed at me to "go down the middle" (I was on the left to keep away from him and his ilk on the right bank). At least he showed some emotion; the rest of them were a picture of abject misery. For goodness sake, it was a beautiful spring day!
