  3. Well you are missing out on an excellent candidate in ignoring Sue Cawson. Just because someone is a member of an organisation and supported by that organisation does not mean they are a bad candidate. I am supporting Alan for exactly the same reason am supporting Sue - excellent candidates, with the requisite organisational experience but more importantly decades of boating experience, a really detailed knowledge of the system, and a commitment to respecting its heritage. The IWA candidatures and the backlash against them have probably done a lot of harm to really good candidates who are members of and supported by an organisation simply because they are outstanding candidates. It may be a folorn hope but there is a real need to understand the difference between a representative and a delegate. Delegates are mandated to vote as decided by their sponsoring organisations; representatives go and make up their own minds on the day. Someone can be supported and even nominated by an organisation without being its delegate; i.e. they can still be independent. The fact that an organisation recognises their worth should surely not count against them? I do however take issue with the IWA putting up four candidates and trying to snaffle all the boater places. No matter how good their candidates may or may not be, i hope they are not successful in sweeping the board. They should have been satisfied to promote one candidate.

  4. As a regular reader, but an infrequent poster,i often wonder why you launch into snide comments that are totally irrelavent to the threads......and often come to the opinion...you are a tosser !.

  5. But that doesnt say that you cant travel. It says to give it consideration. As I have said many times before if people think that their boats moored online will be damaged by ice then they should protect them. They can not and should not expect other boat owners not to move because of them. The larger NE waterways carry a large amount of commercial vessels, these will still be working despite the conditions so any boat with a "fragile" hull should be suitably protected.

  7. Yes Richard BUT you people that like living in houses also like being cold. I am not removing my huge potbellied stove from my boat due to some figures drawn up by someone ( bet a million quid if I had it ) who also lives in a house and not on a boat. I am frozen in here at the moment but sat with my T shirt on . Just one other point not realy relevant that I have found to be true over the years is how many people/boatbuilders/fitters out there build liveaboard boats and give loads of advice on what is and what is not needed and they very nearly all live in houses A bit like a scuba diver giving an astronaut advice on landing on the moon.

  8. I don't know about "rowing eights", but one imagines maybe 5 or 6 IWA trustees lining up arguing about which ones should be allowed in a rowing boat built for just four ?

  9. Ive had squirrels on 65 and 70 foot boats. The one on the 65 foot boat had back boiler to 3 large rads and kept boat toasty. The one on the 70 footer had no back boiler and still did the job very well. Wouldnt do hot water as well though.

  10. I have known Sue for 40 years plus, she used to work for Peter Froud (Canal Voyagers, Inland Waterway Holidays) as I did in 1962, she is committed to canals as I am, even after the influx of latter day boaters!. she and her sister and brother in law have probley done more boating than all of us put together. She got my vote.

  11. Which is odd. You could have used your vote FAR more effectively to ensure that anybody other than me gets elected.

  12. Not only that, there is now so much space down here, I wonder where they all have gone. Any mooring spaces at Pewsey or Honeystreet?

  13. Hi. Firstly, shame about all the immature comments when someone is asking for help, reading this you would think everyone was a 13 yr old, but being a boating forum, i suspect the average is round 40. Seriously, read what your writing, your not like it on the water, so don't be a nasty little bitter whiner on here, it's not somewhere to take out your problems on other people. Thankyou. Now then!! Ive been fishing over 35 years, there are a few good books on basic fishing, tho i couldn't remember any off hand lol, (as its been a long time since ive needed one), so i hunted around a bit. This seems ok http://www.medlarpress.com/7939-Fishing-Books-Simply-Coarse-Fishing_by_Tony-Whieldon.html Better than books, i would say you will learn much more by watching videos/dvd's, there's tons to be downloaded at pirate bay (ive downloaded almost all of these), http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6006078/%5BFishing%5D_Bob_Nudd_-_Fishing_for_Roach http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6002999/%5BFishing%5D_Bob_Nudd_-_Fishing_for_Bream_ http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6019874/%5BFishing%5D_Matt_Hayes_-_Total_Fishing_Series_1 http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6434811/%5BFishing%5D_Matt_Hayes_-_Total_Fishing_Series_3_ Hope that helps a bit, any thing else, just message me, and next time your down south nr London, gimme a shout, i'll be happy to spend a day showing you stuff.
