  1. Then when you've had a few days afloat without visiting anywhere on foot - you get to a raod and the cars are flying along - how did you ever cope with traffic - are they all mad....

  3. Logs to burn, logs to burn logs to save the coal a turn here's a word to make you wise when you hear the woodsmans cries never heed his usual tale that he has good logs for sale but read these lines and really learn the proper kind of logs to burn Beechwood fires burn bright and clear Hornbeam blaxes too if the logs are kept a year and seasoned through and through Oak logs will warm you well if they're old and dry larch logs of pinewood smell but the sparks will fly pine is good an so is yew for warmth through wintry days but Poplar and willow too take long to dry and blaze Birch logs will burn too fast Alder scarce at all Chestnut log are good to last if cut in the fall Holly logs burn like wax you should burn them green elm logs like smouldering flax no flame to be seen Pear logs and apple logs they will scent your room cherry logs across the dogs smell like flowers in bloom But ash logs all smooth and grey burn them green or old burn up all that come your way they're worth their weight in gold.

  4. We always pick up..we also sit in our boat and watch others that don't. We leave a pack of poo bags readily available. .On the stern of our boat..with a note saying feel free to take 1. Then you get the jokers who cruise by..with the dogs running along the towpath..who have no intention of picking up. Its not the dogs fault.its lazy inconsiderate owners. We used to see 1 lady regularly not pick up..even when challenged..so I picked up after her..bagged it and posted it through her letterbox. She called the police..nice policeman really struggled to keep a straight face..I admitted I had done it and explained I was just returning her property. The outcome was she picks up by us now lol.

  5. Sorry to hear that, but well done on getting the survey, another member here posted not so long ago that her son's boat which he had had only a few months and not got surveyed, started taking in water and the short version is, the hull was a state and will cost a fortune to fix, so you've dodged a bullet there. I moved onto my boat three days ago with my cats, they have settled about the same as they have on house moves so far, no worse for the rocking about and maybe even a bit better as it's been a smaller space for them to get used to... I am moving to a different, more cat friendly access pontoon on Thursday when they will be allowed out for the first time since we got on, but they are all keen to go out already and two of them have already had a little look around on the stern and one walked all round the boat on the gunwhales (unplanned, and much to my horror!) and came back in to consider her findings and still seems ok! Advice I have had and am going to utilise- get a couple of extra rope fenders and hang them so that they are actually partially in the water, so the cats have something to haul themselves out on if they cannot get out on a bank. And keep a big net on the roof to fish them out with for any impromptu swandives!

  6. Hi Bob We have these fitted to all our hire fleet and yes they do smoke after a fair bit of use, before you spend loadsa money on calling people out firstly get a service kit they are cheap basically a set of gaskets and get a new glow plug ( £15.50 ) on ebay and go onto YOU TUBE and type in Service Eberspacher and listen to Steve and just do it, bet it sorts it out and hey if not u aint spent much and you can take it from there. Nearly forgot it might be prudent to check the flame senser device as they need to be clean and do fail. Regards Tim
