I put some pictures up here of all areas of interest. I pulled up the shuts and sounded out the plating, the footings in the hold section all sound good and solid, the bottom plate sounds better than I first thought. Apart from the 5 meter or so area back from the box mast, which is like a biscuit tin.

You will see the good footings, the 5 meter rusty area of the bottom plate with the angle framing that needs replacing, the grey painted area that seems better than I first thought, and the corroded sole and uxter plate which must be replaced. You can also see, with a bit of imagination, the back cabin needs stripping right back to bare wood and re painting, but its all sound timber, and original except for the front of the table cupboard where a past owner converted it to a wardrobe.

The damp and cold is really getting to the cabin now I no longer live on it. So hurry up and buy it !

Down to £26000 now.

Market is flooded with boats, and no ones got any money.

i think the skills are going now too,, years ago there were plenty of handy people on the cut that wouldnt think twice about renting a patch of farm land buying your boat dragging it out, doing all the work over a summer and throwing it back in.......its going the way that unless it goes to one of the big time historic repairers it cant be done...............

Disagree! There are plenty of people about with money and very few boats about like Tadworth. Rare as hen's teeth actually.

The people with the money just think the £30k price tag you originally had was way too much. Even £26k seems a lot to me - how much did you pay for it? (Rhetorical question, by the way.) A lot less than £26k I bet!

But either way you can't buck the market, as someone famous once said. ;)

Yes - I agree with Mike - I'd hardly say the market is flooded, if we are talking about historic working boats.

That applies whether converted, unconverted, in good order or "project", I would say.

There are a small number of converted ones, often tired, and in fairly indeterminate state. Most will need a lot spent on them.

Unconverted I can't think of many being openly marketed, although I'll admit there are at least 3 "Large Northwich" motors, but only one that appears anywhere near a state you could actually use it without a lot of work., (assuming the engine now works!).

The one area where there is oversupply, versus demand, is undoubtedly buttys - there will always be far less people looking for these, and I think some of those that have been on the market for a while are unlikely to find buyers unless the vendors start lowering their prices.

We could, and would, do a cash purchase on an historic based converted boat tomorrow if we could find the right one, at a sensible price. Our problem is we want a converted boat that is at least structurally sound, and fairly sensibly laid out. Whether it both actually exists, and someone actually wants to sell it, I have no idea, but we are serious buyers, and would do a very quick deal if we could find what we want.

As you've put your number on here, I've taken the liberty of passing it on (via a friend of mine) to someone who has been talking about having a Large Northwich replica built. His name's Mark, and I think he may well be interested. He's had old boats, so he knows his way around. Might take a few days to hear from him, as my friend's currently in Tenerife and it might take time to pass on the message. Good luck with it. Edited by johnthebridge
