I always thought there was something a bit odd about the characters in Fireball XL5, but as a five year old I could never quite figure out what it was.... I had to make do with one made from a washing up liquid bottle. Was it the wooden acting of the characters that you found odd?

Jen-in-Wellies
Attach lifting bags around the boats stern for extra buoyancy. Cut out the baseplate and engine bearers with an angle grinder, gas torch or implement of choice. The engine will sink to the bed of the canal. The lifting bags will keep the boat afloat. Move boat away from engine. Drag engine and baseplate out of the cut with a grappling hook. Jen 1
dccruiser
I built a wooden frame over my cruiser stern sitting on the gunnels with a block and tackle to lift the engine block above the deckboards then put the deckboards back to sit the engine on to strip it ... I did remove the head and ancillaries first though ... Still have the chainblock and strops if you need them Rick Edited March 31, 2018 by dccruiser
NbPlod
Kind offer but I think I'll leave it to the professionals. If I had to do it my self, I know a man with a hiab.

NbPlod
Towed the boat by hand from Northampton town centre to lock 14 on the Northampton arm. Turns out you don't need an engine at all.

That's awfully personal - why not just ask what you want to know. Maybe his partner calls him 'full-size Stallion', does it matter ?
