landlordharry
I want to make my 50ft narrow boat more winter friendly and would like to fit an up-to-date TV system and a flame effect calor gas heater for the saloon. I would welcome any advice please on what to buy/avoid nb Alkali Trent Lock
Phil Ambrose
Avoid the Calor heater like the plague, it will chuck out so much moisture that everything will be running with condensation. As for TV, all you need is an inverter and TV of your choice Phil

Phil Ambrose
I think Biggles had a flame effect gas stove on his boatMaybe the effect of the moisture generated is mitigated to a degree in a widebeam, still wouldn't have one thoughPhil
larkshall
Gas consumption horrendous water vapour even more so. Get a reflex/lockgate diesel heater, stuff solid fuel, or hire a cleaner

magnetman
There are some flued LPG freestanding heaters about which will provide dry heat. An example is the dutch "pelgrim bambino" I bought on on eBay but never fitted it as I put a second solid fuel stove in instead. Sold the bambino on eBay again. I suspect it would use a ££lot of gas. Another one was the tiny "cozy cabin" heater which is an American yot heater. There are others but can't think of them now.
MtB
Avoid the Calor heater like the plague, it will chuck out so much moisture that everything will be running with condensation. I think the OP is asking for a 'live fuel effect' gas fire like you get in the fireplace in a house. Not an LPG cabinet heater. In which case it will have a flue, and water vapour will not be a problem. Fuel consumption will be a problem though, as LFE fires have a fuel efficiency of only about 20%!
