1.5 oil filter head gasket

During the oil change I struggled to get the pesky seal back in. So I unbolted the filter head off the engine and flipped it over. Voila. So easy. But! There is a gasket between the head and the engine. Half of it was stuck to the head and the other to the engine. Reluctantly I refitted the head and filled her with oil. After firing her up and running for a few hours it seems to be drip free. But however I do want to replace the gasket. Is it simply called an oil filter head gasket? Available from Calcutt?

When I first changed the oil on my BMC 1.5 and unbolted the filter head , there was no gasket of any kind. So after replacing the filter I refixed the filter head as it was with no gasket and didn't have any leaks.

I don't have issues with losing oil much so can only assume it is a good seal, I'm going to make a point of checking this when I next go to the boat.

Or ASAP. Or probably any MG specialist as it is likely to be the same as the MGB

I am not so sure about that. I thought that the B series petrol engine had an intermediate housing above the filter itself with an oil pipe running to/from it so the gasket might only have one oil hole in it. I am sure Biz & co will be along to put me right!

I always remove the oil filter on my BMC 1.5 by removing the entire assembly from the engine block, I have never changed the gasket, which is stuck firmly onto the filter head, and it has never leaked.

David

Mines firmly stuck too. But half to the head and t'other on engine.
