Watertight "wet floor"

Featured Posts

I'm installing a bath in the aft cabin, and don't want spills to end up in the bilge (which is currently nice and dry).

So I was going to install a watertight floor beneath the bath. Initially, I thought of making a metal tray, and fitting a grating into it. SWMBO doesn't like gratings. Then I thought of making a raised surround on the floor, and lining the floor with copper sheet, moulded over the surround. Again SWMBO wasn't in favour.

My last-ditch thought is to plank the floor with good flooring timber, route/carve a groove along the joins, and put a bead of sikaflex in the grooves. This seems doable.

A complication is that SWMBO would like the raised lip to follow the curve of the bath ends.

Anyone have any suggestions?

a friend of mine just fibre glassed the entire room. He's only just done it so I don't know if it worked or not. Looks OK though! I'd certainly like to see the water try and get out of it!!

Yes one of my neighbours has made a GRP covered floor tray and is putting wooden slats over the top. He's actually used a 2 part epoxy product, rather than ordinary fibreglass resin & hardener.

Could you not use the flexible flooring (like lino!) and then fold this up at the edges of the walls to form a container?

I would just cove the floor covering (altro or similar) and seal the joints, either hot weld or there is a propriatary sealant which should be easily colour matched if bought from the same manufacturer as the floor covering
