Red Hermetite replacement?

Featured Posts

My water pump has developed a leak. Its a Shurflo Aquaking Standard made in 1999.

I had decided to open it up and seal it with some red Hermetite.

However, it seems that red Hermetite has been discontinued.

What should I use?

Many thanks

Richard

Many years ago when was a marine engineer then a fitter in a power station Hylomar was used a lot.

I wonder if it would work for you

I read the reviews on the top item (the 40g tube - 16 reviews). Could be just the job

When a Shurflo pump starts to leak, it is almost always because the diaphragm/drive unit gasket has failed. They are available as a spare part, but at £28 are not particualrly cheap, I always try to keep one in stock and usually buy it on a Midland Chandlers Freaky Fiday at just over £22. Annoyingly the gasket is no longer available as a separate spare.

I've got a couple of new tubes here if you need one posting.

How about the proper gasket or O ring? I know it's a whacky suggestion but there you go.biggrin.png

Most of the time they tend to leak at the edge as the diaphragm material is quite soft and so doesn't perform all that well as an O-ring. Not that hard to re-seal carefully with some LS-X goo.

cheers, Pete.
