I'm pretty sure the road tax is only £165 per annum though as it doesn't actually carry any goods.

Yes, quite possibly it would be leased, it generally depends on what HMRC's position is towards capital expenditure on equipment purchases at any given time that determines whether it's better to lease or buy.

I'd say so. I reckon just the tyres would be about £2,000 each. A bog-standard HGV tractor unit is getting on for £100,000.

Just found an eight-year-old crane with a 55 tonne lifting capacity (about half as much as the OP's crane) for sale at £175,000 + VAT.
