Naughty-Cal's East Coast Adventure

We have finally made it off the Tyne and as sea conditions and the weather were favourable we have headed for Scarborough.

Sea conditions were not great all the way. Across Tees Bay we were averaging about 10 knots to stop the slamming and banging and keep NC in the water. Thankfully the further south we travelled the smoother it became.

Phone reception here is poor so photos to follow!

For anyone in the area Mustafa's is a must eat out destination. We went there last night and it was so nice.

Really enjoyed following your trip as I live near to Hull and regularly travel up to Tyneside to visit my Grandson..my only boating experience up there though was taking him across on the Tyne ferry captain.gif ..

Just curious....on a narrowboat we can almost moor anywhere, do you have to book the marina in advance or just turn up? I assume you have to pay for mooring on arrival? they all look nice moorings

You can just turn up but we have rung ahead each time just to let them know we are coming.

We have paid at each port so far with prices ranging from £14 per night to £22 per night for our 23ft boat.

The marina here at Hull are running a loyalty scheme for visitors where by for every fours nights you stay you get a fifth free. They don't have to be consecutive days either. So think we will be back down later in the year to take advantage!

That's a good incentive to get you back. Try the Minerva pub by the pier if you come back. Bit 'spit n sawdust' but real ales and nice food.

Moorings seem a bit steep, but if it's your 'big' trip of the year you don't mind do you....

Has a few pints in the Minerva!

Now back in the river. Seems very strange being in "little" rivers!

Now moored in West Stockwith basin for a couple of nights before making our way home back to the ditch.

Had to wait going on for an hour for the lick whilst two narrowboats prattled around getting in. And then they blamed the lockie for their failed efforts!

Really? Come in YOU cocked it up not lockie!

It looks like you have had a fantastic trip.

Enjoy the last leg

Had a great trip thanks.

Met loads of new friends, found loads of places we will certainly visit again and made it there and back with no breakdowns or breakages!

We I say that no doubt the last four miles between here in Saxilby and Burton Waters will now cause us grief:)

ETA: I have loads of great pictures on the camera but can't get them back off until I get home!

Forgot to add. I totted up the mileage yesterday.

We cruised for 493 miles.

Filled up with 392 litres of diesel at a cost of £417.35, so an average of £1.06 a litre at a 60/40 split.

We will fill her to the brim again this weekend but reckon she needs about 100 litres to top her up so will have used about 1 litre per mile.
