An update to this thread.

 

We have been looking into getting a set of gears cut, which wasn't looking too ridiculous. Meanwhile, I have been watching Ebay for BMC 1.5 engines for various reasons when, in the side bar was - a Perkins S6M gearbox

 

I bought it and it is now strewn about the workshop as I choose the best set of parts from two boxes. The seller is a part of the Perkins historical group and he has sent me some diagrams and instructions, including the explanation as to why the lubrication failed. I am very grateful, this is going to sort the gearbox and get Fairstar back on the move
