A friend has phoned me because she cannot get her generator to start, its has fuel and the correct level of oil in the sump. Anyone with any ideas I can pass on?

Take spark plug out and check for a spark.

 

Is fuel getting thru ? (is there a blocked filter somewhere) Is spark plug wet ?

 

If the plug is 'dry' there is possibly a fuel problem

 

If there is a spark, and fuel is gettung thru' clean plug with a bit of sandpaper / wet & dry, heat up 'tip' 'twith a cig lighter ( or over the hob) until too hot to hold,

Screw it back in quickly, plug cap on and pull it over.

 

If there is a spark and there is petrol it should start.

This caught me out on our new EU10i the oil dipstick is coloured light Grey, it's almost impossible to see the correct oil level especially in bad light. On ours now we judge the oil level by determining there is oil at the level that covers the bottom of the thread the dipstick screws into.

Make sure it is standing level, those oil level sensors can be pesky little devils.
