Yellow BS fuel pipe - feed and return - for the BSS can it be fixed with jubilee clips or does it need crimped on pipe clips?

I thought it was only gas lines that had to be crimped, but happy to be corrected....

Yellow BS fuel pipe - feed and return - for the BSS can it be fixed with jubilee clips or does it need crimped on pipe clips?

Hi Chris I was told only to use compression fittings on all fuel related feed & return to engine and in relation to front bow tanks that feed the diesel bubble stove.

Caused a bit of a problem as the engine diesel intake was a thin imperial pipe and the Yellow diesel hose was 8 or 10mm I did manage to find the correct fitting in the end from some small local company in the Bath area, but through a friend so don't know exactly where.

When I have had to fit them, they come crimped onto tails, which then just slip into the compression fittings or get flared etc.

I've checked the guide and found this:

2.11.3/R REQUIREMENT

Checks have found that the use of ineffective clamps and

connections have caused leaks.

Are flexible fuel hose connections made with hose clips or clamps

effective and in good condition?

Check flexible fuel hose connections made with hose clips or clamps

that can be seen and reached. Assess their condition and look and

feel for leaks.

Pull using light manual force to check security of all hose connections.

Flexible fuel hose connections made with hose clips or clamps must:

  •
  • be suitably sized, that is, not so oversized that the band forms an
elliptical shape or so undersized that no tightness is achieved; and,
  • be appropriately tight, that is, not so loose that the connection can
be pulled forward or back under light manual force, nor so tight that
the hose is excessively pinched; and,
  • show no signs of damage or deterioration at the clip or clamp; and,
  • show no signs of damage or deterioration at the hose caused by the
    clips or clamps.

Note – Do not apply the light manual force check to injector leak-off

(spill rail) arrangements having push-on connections. Supplementary

information on spill rail options is available on

www.boatsafetyscheme.com or by post or email from the BSS Office.

Are hose clamps Jubilee clips?

The flexible fuel pipe has to go on to a propper barbed hosetail it can then be fitted with jubilee clips as that is deemed secure

You cannot put a flexible pipe directly on to a bit of copper pipe and do the same

That's very useful

Have you got the BSS guidance notes for injector spill rails as well, especially on more 'mature' engines?

Afraid not

My friendly examiner passed that info on to me when I was fitting my genset

Yes jubilee clips are hose clamps. Just be sure to avoid generic poor quality clips and make sure to use the correct size.
