Waterworld competition

At the end of the Waterworld program, there is a phone-in competition.

The question is

"What's the Correct Name for a Canal Boat?"

A. Long Boat

B. Narrow Boat

C. Barge

Now it occurs to me there could be some controversy over the answer to this.

What do you think?

Well, my boat was designed for the canals, will fit exactly in a narrow lock, and is definately a boat, and it's called a GRP Cabin Cruiser, so the answer could be: 'None of these'.

Where do Dutch Barges fit in, there's plenty of those on The Leeds Liverpool and Bridgewater canals?

:P

Well because lots of people I know call them longboats.. (even narrowboaters) and some call them narrowboats and some call the barges depending on the style :P

that is a great example of a stupid comp! :P

Yeah, there are a lot of them around!!

I was flicking though the channels and just court a comp CBBC.

- I dont remember the exact question, but its was aking about what happened in the prevous program (which i'd missed) somthing like "which boy in .... did ...." Then answers where like A)emily B)dave c)shamika

- Which is just plain stupid, then to add insult to injury the played the clip, with him, and somone calling out his name midway though!

Then in tiny letters "calls cost a minimum of £1.50, mobile rates may variy"

"Mummy, can i ring the tellivision man, i want to win..."

- What a mean assed way of making money.

the options are all wrong.

'canal boat' is a perfectly adequate description of a boat that uses the canals.

proper names begin with capital letters, as we learnt in the 4th form at school.

so the proper name for a canal boat is Canal Boat.

actually it's all a bit C...anal :P

It should also be asked if it is a Narrow Boat, or a Narrowboat ?

So we could have:

A. Long Boat

B. Narrow Boat

C. Barge

D. GRP Cruiser

E. Short Boat (Leeds & Liverpool)

F. Rodney Boat

G. All of these depending on the canal, the region, the history, who you are, and how much you know or are able to remember.

Why don't they just say, look, no question, just ring 0907..... and you might win a trip on a Narrow Boat, and you must hold until the machine tells you to hang up so we get a quid.

But they then may be accused of offering you a trip on the wrong type of boat, because you might end up renting a Short Boat on The Leeds Liverpool or a Severn Trow on The Gloucester and Sharpness or something.

They have to use question and answer format to comply with the lotteries and Gaming Act. Boring I know.

But surely (without reading it) that states there must be one, and only one, right answer.

- Rather than 3 possable, but all incorrect answers?
