Vetus M4.17 servicing

Featured Posts

It seemed excessive to me, as well. I try for 200hrs between oil/filter changes on Copperkins. When she was part of the Ownerships fleet, the norm was an oil/filter change during the summer, and a full servce during the winter. That was a lot longer than 100hrs between oil changes.......

Hi, Vetus stipulate changing oil and filter every one hundred hours, this seems a little excessive to me.

Boat builder recommended every two hundred hours, what do you think.

I think it's a 10 minute job, and that it doesn't cost much for oil and filter.

Go with 100 hours.

OK, I have a BMC, not a Vetus, but if you can complete an oil and filter change in 10 minutes you're a cleverer man than I am!

BMC service interval is 150 hours - I doubt many diesels get done at 100 hours, but could be wrong.

Yes, Vetus stipulate oil and filter change every 100 hours. Not only have I done this over the past 4 years, but also flush out the old oil as well. Now, that probably IS excessive!

Anyone know what Thornycroft stipulate for their Mitsubishi-based units?

Thanks all, I will probably stick with the 100hrs where possible,it's just that we are going off cruising for a couple of months or more which means an oil and filter change approximately every two to three weeks. Better make sure we stock up!

Hi

Every 100 hours is outrageous!

No industrial plant company would buy an engine that neede service that often.

At an average of 30 MPH thats every 3000 miles.

Modern diesels with modern oil all do 6,000/10,000 miles between services

See ..............link

Yanmar/Barrus recommend 250 hours (7,500 miles) with a similar industrial engine.

Hi Alex

Lister Petter Alphas stipulate 100 hrs, due, I think, to hydraulic valve lifters. Certain engine builds say 250 hrs and some 500 hrs, as far as I can tell it's down to larger filter size.
