How Fast Are You REALLY Going.

Another contribution to beer fueled calculations, pushing back the boundaries of late night science,

Speed of planet rotation- 640mph

Speed of planet orbit- 144000mph

Speed of solar system 45000mph

I'm ignoring general expansion, and our galaxy's sidereal motion because it's complicated enough without them.

Now, the fun bit, it's 2:03 in the morning, and it's spring(ish) and the whole thing is belting along roughly in the direction of Hercules, so, Hmmm(pauses for deep mental thought) Damn! my calculator has run out of zeros!

Couldnt sleep! The thought of speeding worried me so!

Tried the calculations, pretty complex vectors using 'j' operator etc. finally reached a point where "earths surface speed was so magnificently insignificant it could be ignored " I quit.

I now return to bed happy that speed does not matter!

With a severe lack of any brains and the steadying influence of Moomin Papa(he in fact put the idea in my head!), when we could not go down to Cambridge over Easter we went to visit the now closed Dog in a Doublet pub just for completeness. On the way back we did the 8km to the Stanground turn in 35 mins -got a bit hot though. Now I wonder if it could be improved by changing the prop..........or fitting a turbo

Crossing the Sandettie bank we were just starting to punch the tide.

GPS shows 6.53 knts over the ground and 6.3 towards the waypoint.....that wouldve been at 700 RPM

The sea was well calm but can be a bit lively over the bank

speed is reletive to what you want to do.........our trips of 12 hours to the Belgium Ports was reletive to being sympathetic to a 60 yr old engine on a 70 yr old boat. But we arrived alive and without incident and returned in the same manner....albeit sometimes with broken crockery
