Covered dock near Nottingham

Hi all,

 

I need to do some top maintenance on a standard beam 42ft narrowboat

Can anyone recommend a covered floating dock (ie not a dry dock) within a couple hours commuting distance of Nottingham?

Haven't found anything suitable near the city and am open to take the boat pretty much anywhere.

Do you mean commute by boat ?

 

5 miles is not going to get you far from Nottingham.

Trevethics is a dry dock and he specifically said NOT a dry dock.

 

A great place - we used them for both painting and for blacking.

Was meaning to commute by train/bus while leaving the boat in situ

 

Mills is also dry dock only, though when I phoned last week they had good availability if that's useful info to anyone

Any reason why you can't use a covered dry dock, but just not drain it?

I had the same thought but the dry docks I've asked have said no

You can still paint the topsides in a drained dry dock.  A dryer environment may be helpful.  Perhaps you thought a wet dock would cost less?

Interested as why you only want a 'wet-dock'.

Is it cost, or would your boat not 'cope' being on blocks and not supported by water ?

If you are painting the topsides it's a damn sight easier if you are standing on the dockside alongside a floating boat than working up a ladder several feet above the dock floor.

Looking specifically for a wet dock for ease of access to the topside.

 

She'd be fine on hard standing, had her in Trevethicks for blacking earlier in the year.

 

For this work, I'm just not looking to be wobbling around on the roof with a 10ft drop onto concrete if I miss haha

Each to their own, but I'd rather be painting the topside on a non-wobbly boat,
