Hi, Can anyone give me an idea of mobile wifi coverage on the Lancaster, specifically on the 3 network?

I'm planning a trip but need to be able to use my wifi for work.

Anyone with recent experience?

thanks

It's the usual  excellent near population centres, sometimes a bit patchy in the middle of nowhere.

We use the three network and overwintered on the Lancaster (July 2020 - April 2021)

Thanks @TheBiscuits good to know, are there any places you didn't feel were safe to moor?

Once you are clear of preston everywhere is safe....but depending on draft its not always possible away from signed visitor moorings....we draw 2ft 8in.

We moored down at Cadley and at Ashton too without worrying about it.

If you need access to Preston for something Ian at Ashton Basin can usually shuffle a couple of boats and make room for a couple of nights.

We were up there in 2019, mainly Three for internet and I don’t remember it being particularly bad.

If you need to get into Preston, there is a efficient bus service that runs down the A6, we used that to get the Preston rail station.

Fair enough. There was a tatty cruiser tied on the facility at Cadley when we were there with feral dogs/kids aboard….and we couldn’t get near the edge anywhere further into Preston. That was 2015 so might be better now. The rest was lovely though…really enjoyed it.

But check the weather forecast, if it is windy there are some serious waves on Glasson dock, and they really smash the boat about!

Good point! We had a windy night by the car park…not fun and the boat got covered in sea foam. If it’s like that it’s much better to move over to the visitor mooring by the playground

We were on the Lancaster for a month in 2019 and I can't remember there ever being a problem with a signal with our 3 mobile mi-fi. Sometimes a little slow perhaps, but I suppose it depends what you are using it for.

As for feeling safe, it's as frangar says, once you are clear of Preston (past the football training ground) there shouldn't be a problem anywhere.

Thanks everyone, i ended up delaying till Spring to get some jobs done on the boat. It's good to know it will feel safe and the internet is ok.

Thanks for the weather tip re Glasson Dock too.
