Water voles

It is about 15 years since mink killed off all our local water vole population (misguided protesters released the mink from a mink farm).

 

I have just been doing an oil change on the boat and am delighted to report that an adult water vole just swam across the canal by

our house/mooring.

As a lad I too spent many happy hours watching a colony on a stream near where I lived.   Lovely little creatures.

Yes indeed. Mrs. Athy spotted one, possibly more, swimming in the Ashby while we were going along there last summer.
