Hi

Am looking for recommendations as to which water heater we should buy to replace the one installed which is not very efficient. It is a Morco D 61-B.

Thanks

The Morco D61B was the gas water heater of choice until they stopped making them not long ago. Why do you think yours is inefficient?

When you say it's not very efficient is that because there's something wrong with it or are you saying that model isn't very efficient? It's quite a popular water heater on boats.

Crossed post with David.

Perhaps it just needs a service or it's the way your plumbing system is set up.

And flame servicing, because those telltale black marks in front of the pilot viewport mean it is chucking carbon monoxide into the cabin.

They are only inefficient if you leave the pilot light burning between showers.   What they actually do if working correctly is warm water from about 15 degrees to about 60 degrees as fast as your water pump can send it through.  That's about 10 kW of heat, or better than most mains electric showers ...

... but you have to pay for the gas.  If we don't use ours, a gas bottle lasts 6 months.  When we do use ours, a gas bottle lasts a month if we are lucky.

Not necessarily....

Ours  can get like that because we are in the habit of lighting it with a hand held butane lighter.  It is defintely not in our case the result of it not burning cleanly or any other fluing problem.

I agree though that if the black marks are caused by normal use it needs checking out.

EDITED TO ADD:

However from the surround and the magnetic catch, it looks like yours may be installed in a cupboard with a closeable door.  If so, it really should not be.
