If you click and drag to highlight part of someone's post, a bubble appears that says, 'quote this' When you click on it it opens a new quote post all ready to add your biting sarcasm!. This is much easier if you want to quote only part of a post.

OK then here goes. Hi I'm currently using the mobile version of the new site on a 5 inch (mobile phone) screen on Google chrome in the portrait position. So I go on a forum , say 'general boating' and click on a topic I like the look of, after reading the current reply's (say 15) I exit and come back a few hours later. Now when I click back on the same topic (which now has 30 reply's) it starts me again from the beginning, so I have to start searching through for the place I was (which is marked by a small blue line) and if I miss the line I end up lost and having to start again which is annoying. On the old site, when I returned to a thread it would start me off where I left off. I would then scroll up a post or two to refresh my memory then carry on, EASY! Is there something I need to do so It remembers where I was, like the site of old did. I've read some of the other topics in this forum but the screen shots of the site are different to the mobile site that I'm on. I can't even find settings... Thanks for helping. Hopefully my problem can be helped!!

The old software had a button on each tab that showed the first, first unread and last posts in a thread without having to open the whole thing. Is this functionality in this version? Richard

Having set up a custom stream for unread topics, I find the RSS feed (which did not work on the previous forum software) to be quite useful. I use the "RSS Feed Reader" extension on Chrome. It only shows topic titles and I can quickly decide if it's worth reading them or not. Every so often I mark the whole site read as I am fed up of the Brexit stuff and a few other subjects. There used to be a quick way to mark threads read but I can't find it in this version.

From home page click on 'All Activity' Click on 'Unread Content' Click on grey tick to the right of 'Unread Content

A suggestion which I thought some may appreciate: The new version of the forum software allows us to customise our forum profile and personalise it a little, e.g. adding cover photos, perhaps to display your favourite photo of the moment on your profile. Here's mine. Would be good to see some others.

In the past I have never knowingly "followed" any member. However am apparently new option when looking at posts is those from "members I follow". It seems that people who were formerly just on a "Friends" list in the old software, (and which didn't seem to relate to forum functionality, I think), have now become "members I follow". Is that correct, please?

In the old version the blob which took you to the last read post was a star when it was a topic in which I had posted. Is there any way now of telling which topics I have posted in, or can it be configured in my new 'View New Content' page? (This is a request from Mrs Mac who likes to see what I've been up to.) (I don't want to configure it only to show topics I have contributed to.)

In the new interface how does one view their own or somebody elses reputation...? I don't seem to be able to find this anymore although I am sure at one time I clicked somewhere and saw it.

Post numbers are not appearing on individual posts. Is this just me, and can I get them to appear?

As existing members will have noticed and as per the recent announcement, we have updated the forum software to the most current version. In non-techy terms, think of it as a new engine that powers the site. The old one had reached its end of life after being in service for 5 years across many of many widely used discussion forums on the internet, including Canal World. You will notice that "View No Content" is missing. Why? The developers modified the search functionality to give you more choice over the content you choose to see and and as such, it has been replaced with "My Activity Streams" (screenshot on where to find this below) (PC/Laptop) You can set it to to show only new content or you can set it to only display content related to what your interested in, should you wish. The choice is yours but bear in mind it has a much broader scope. With this comes a little more complexity but it's relatively easy to learn. Ok that's great but I just want VNC back You can configure it to replicate the functionality of VNC. One of our forum members kindly posted the following tip on how to replicate VNC using a PC/Laptop. I'm still having problems with this Should you have any issues in completing this and should you wish to have these changes applied by me, please PM me and I will set it for you. I know we're somewhat relaxed when it comes to keeping on-topic but on this occasion, please may I kindly request that this topic stays on topic as we will be linking directly to this topic from other areas on the site. Like many, I have set up a custom stream to simulate VNC. I filter for items, comments and reviews, topics and unread. I go to the first unread post and read the posts. In the bottom-right-hand corner I click on 'Next Unread Topic' but it does not take me to the next topic from the previous page. Is this because the indexing is still in progress?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I've been pulling my hair out this morning trying to find my way around the forum now and work out what button does what. I've spent all morning trying to find the 'View New Content' button. Now I've found it, it is scroll-a-rama. Is there any way of reducing the information on the screen? All i want to see is the thread titles on the screen. Now there is too much informationand you have to scroll like made. This is actually just one of many annoying things that are wrong with this new skin. I'd like to go on record as saying that i think it is bloody awful and needs simplifyingbig time.

It seems that Messenger is configured to be in a mobile format. I get a single scrolling list of all my messages in a thin column Richard OK, got it. There is a list of messages on the left, then a larger area for the actual message itself on the right That's OK Richard

there are no settings in my profile so i can change email notifications etc etc, anyone else have these settings missing?

At the moment it is not obvious how having displayed threads with "unread content", I actually get to go to the first unread post, rtaher than the first post in the thread. Must be easy, so how, please? EDIT: Scrub that - I have found it - it is easy - just different!

So on my tablet I prefered the mobile skin under the old software. can't find how to switch to mobile in the new software Where is it? J

You can share your custom streams http://canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/discover/6 for example, will show anyone items only, unread and from the past day. It seems to me that each time a member creates a unique stream the number at the end of the URL increases by one. I just created 143 which shows be unread topics since my last visit. This can be used to send Newbies a link to their perfect custom stream - they just need to bookmark it. If you go to stream 15 you can see that it was created by David Mack and there is a button to add it to your custom streams! Some numbers don't work, perhaps because their stream was deleted by the creator.

Hi there, Was wondering if there is any way to get this new forum software to default to the desktop version on my tablet? I'm on Google Chrome and have an 8 inch screen and prefer the desktop version over the mobile version it seems to have defaulted to. The old site used to always go to the desktop version without changing any of the settings...

Do you want 'reputations' back or do you want less clutter? It's a trade off.
