  1. North of Potter Heigham is the best part of the Broads. Pity we couldn't get through last time - it was a long time ago.
  2. I have the socket inside the boat and the cable enters through the large gap (high level vent?) between the door and the rear hatch. I worried about the cable being damaged but it also runs over the bows, along the roof, over the bike, etc. Actually since installing solar I have no real need for shorepower.
  3. If you search this site for gas safety certificate you will see that getting one is not a bss requirement for a private leisure boat . It is good good practice but your examiner is wrong.
  4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-54064795 £10M bill for C&RT
  5. As explained by Tony, it is probably worth rotating the bearing housing 90 deg. before replacing. It's a quick job and in my case allowed the bearing to be greased for the first time in X years!
  6. What do you call a convertible Skoda ? A skip. Why do Skoda's have a heated rear screen? To keep your hands warm when pushing it.
  7. Reminds me of the old communist days Prague joke about the "new" 16 valve Skoda. 8 in the engine and 8 in the radio.
  8. Craftinsure were OK with my sailaway. I increased the value a couple of times as I added stuff. Took me a lot longer than 9-12 months - more like 9-12 years!

  11. Makes you wonder if the people awarding these contracts have ever had a proper job.
  12. Apparently reporting to local authorities and even Public Health England wasn't in the contract with Deloitte.
  13. 80 positive tests reported instead of 944 is a bit off the mark but Starmer is "mistaken" according to Boris. Better get your boats into the middle of nowhere before all the other cities go into lock down.
  14. My semi trad stern has no permanent seats giving plenty of room for the family, bike, dog, mooring tackle, toolboxes etc. Also good access to the engine. It gives better protection from the weather than a cruiser stern but not as good as a trad. Depends if you are going to cruise regardless of the weather or like us only when it's nice!
  15. If I was looking for a sailaway again ( I am not) I would definitely consider this worth a look. If it was for my own use I would build to RCD but not bother with Declaration of Conformity unless I needed to sell it. Probably be academic after we have been out of the EU for a few years.
  16. I want one of them red lights. Alternative is to call the wife on the mobile and ask her to put it into neutral. Don't ask how I know.
  17. Getting off their diesel point can be a challenge with the prevailing wind blowing cross half a mile of open water. Reverse turn at about 2000 revs worked for me but very entertaining for the gathering crowd.

  19. I have replaced the Johnson Ultima level switch about 5 times in 10 years, That is after drying them out to get a few more months life. £50 each and I think I got 3 replaced under warranty. The others I lost the receipts. It is a horrible wet sticky job usually at about 11 PM. There is no IP rating so it's my fault for installing it. American spec like chlorinated chicken. Once a year a good clean out is needed which is also a lovely job. I much prefer the engine maintenance in the sunshine.
  20. I used a grey water tank to reduce the number of through hull fittings and keep them 250mm above water level. The bloody thing needs more maintenance than the engine!

    Water hammer

Do you have a flexible hose on the suction / tank side? Potentially it can collapse under negative pressure depending what type it is e.g. cheap tap connector hose.
