  1. Rylard very kindly offered to mix and send me a free tin of paint if I send a colour sample of what I want. Anyone notice any difference with Rylard paints since the acquisition of the Rylard brand by Mainline in April 2009? I think the paint is manufactured by Spencers in Glasgow. Was it always so? Paul
  2. Alex, Did you use Stilsons to tighten your prop nut? Paul
  3. Took my front steel doors home to repaint them - several minor accidents including trying to get a 3m steel cable tray through before opening them. New tin of Rylard navy blue 00022 same as original paint job 3 years ago and various touchups and repairs since. Back to the navy blue boat, nice sunny day and the doors are now purple! Proper job, primer, mid blue undercoat all Rylard products. Still have half of last year's tin which is exactly the same colour as the boat. I do expect different batches to be slightly different but this is miles out. Anyone else had similar problems? Paul
  4. Where did you get the sensor? I may have the same problem and it's worth a try. Paul
  5. I watched this thread with interest because my installation with Centaflex CF-M-160 and PRM 150 had always concerned me. The M10 studs and nyloc nuts that come with the Centa kit seemed perilously close to the PRM oil pump casing. Is this normal? I imagine one loose stud would have a serious imact on your bank balance. I changed them for M10 x 25mm 10.9 hex screws and some locktite when I checked the alignment last week and it looks / feels 100% better. Went with the torque wrench already set at 45Nm per the manual but no room for anything other than a small ring spanner. Easy to see how you can strip the threads. Like FadetoScarlet also managed to lock the coupling with a square section steel bar between the lugs on the prop side of the coupling and the hull. Watch your fingers because it can slip out. Paul
  6. One of the functions of BW is to collect our licence fees. I suppose this will continue.?
  7. We are also at Kings Bromley and looking forward to the hog roast and some good music. Paul and Jackie nb Lady Soar
  8. North of bridge 67 is quiet and safe. We moor opposite the house with the indoor swimming pool - a bit upmarket. You will need a plank between 66 and 67. It is deeper between 65 and 66 but often full. Paul
  9. Your calculation is correct (apart from the 120v which is not part of the calculation). Most fridges would consume more than that - more like 48 amp hours per day. There are several threads comparing 12v and 240v fridges. Paul

    Bilge blowers

ISO 8846 does not include protection for hydrogen. You may have created an ATEX zone 2 requiring a certified fan eg EEX ia IIC T4. Better just to site the fan out of the zone eg lower and use as a blower. Don't work for BP do you? Paul
  11. Vehicle Wiring Products, Ilkeston sell Durite Anti-corrode compound at £2.95. Just used it and have to say it looks like the Vaseline that I normally use. Will give you a comparison later in the year. Paul
  12. Can you sit on the port side or move the controls? Paul
  13. I bought a few Wilkinsons mats to try. Looked OK so went back for the rest which I had to order. Now have two different thicknesses - Chinese quality control? Will probably take them all back. Paul
  14. New alternator - there was a known wiring problem that was diagnosed over the phone. Engineer came out and fitted it next day. Hope everything works out for you. Paul
  15. Thanks Richard, I agree. Thankyou all for your replies. Paul
  16. Any of you boatbuilders know where to get the brackets / strips that allows you to attach the dinette table to the wall. Caravan shops and websites only seem have plastic strips which would not be strong enough for my Ikea 28mm thick table top. I saw steel interlocking strips on a New Zealand website. Surely must be something closer! Paul
  17. Am in Delhi. It is absolutely freezing at night. Mumbai a bit better but riots so best to stay indoors!!!!!!! Looking forward to some unseasonal spring weather in Barton Turns next week.
  18. I tried Ronseal water based quick drying varnish. Didn't darken the wood, quick to dry and no smell. Probably same as the Dulux.
  19. I am very happy with my Soar Valley shell - good welding and finish and nice people to deal with. If you can get a copy of September 2007 Canal Boat there is a review of Grumpy Git which was very complimentary about Soar Valley.
  20. Try http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?pro...=&subCatID= Engine enamel. Lots of useful stuff related to restoring old cars.
  21. On the same industrial estate as Soar Valley Steel Boats. Most of the photos on the site are Soar Valley shells. I would also be very interested to know if anyone has had a boat fitted out by them.
  22. Don't be too hard on them. Midland are a very good chandlers with good stock at their 3 branches and reasonable prices.
  23. Gary, For the benefit of us amateurs: what is the current requirement under 7840 for colour and marking of these hoses? BSS 2.10.2 says the hoses should be marked.
  24. This material is available in different thicknesses and idea was to use 19 or 22mm thick Oak boards for lining sides and making bulkheads. Obvious question is would board of this thickness split or twist with changing humidity and expansion of the shell. Agree 38mm board is an option seriously worth considering for the floor.
