  1. Excellent service from Bulborne dry dock, top marks to them. For the sake of others as unfortunate as yourselves to "pop" the rudder out of its cup, it would only be in very extreme circumstances that a boat would need to be docked to remedy the situation. Any competent boat engineer would have it back in place in 10 minutes. A
  2. Check both companies out here for free.http://companycheck.co.uk/ Personally I'd steer clear of any company headed by a director who is running 18 companies at the moment, with a track record of running 39. Not really focused IMO unless it's Richard Branson A
  3. Hi Mike Most of the parameters can be changed in canal plan to suit your cruising style, set the time it takes you to do a lock, set your cruising speed allowing for your boats draught and engine, set the cruising hours per day etc. Its a brilliant site. A
  4. Replacement inserts for MC4 connectors @ 52p each. Only problem , they are in Australia. Edited to add http://fastlec.com.au/shop/mc4-style-connection-system/solinq-replacement-spare-pin-insert-mc4-style/ A
  5. Seconded, ulysse speedometer is very good, and for android Richard A
  6. Hi, from your intended use of the towed boat CaRT will require you to buy a Business licence, that is once you have jumped through a load of hoops for them to allow you to trade. CaRT Business Trading Craft licence was over £1000 last year for an 18 ft boat. Over £1300 for a 25ft boat. A
  7. Hi, I know it looks like a no brainer to pay £500 for a 12v fridge when you can get a 230v version for a fraction of that. To clarify 12 volt fridges run off 12 volt batteries, there is no inverter involved and they are by far the most efficient way of producing cold. In my experience the boats with the most problems with battery power run a 230v fridge through an inverter set up. Others will be along to reasons why you should buy a 230v unit but on the whole they will be wrong ! A 12 volt fridge will take approx 4 amps out of your batteries 50% of the time, i.e. on / off cycle. I have recently found Sterling inverters taking nearly 4 amps out of the batteries at idle. Planning to live aboard, its a no brainer not to buy the 12 volt fridge. From your stated proposed 230v usage you could reduce the size of the inverter to off set the cost of the 12 v fridge A
  8. Sorry Junior if I seem unhelpful, There is a new "ish" advisory (at the moment) installation British standard for stoves in boats. Lots of stoves are still being fitted in boats, how many to the recognised "advisory" BS is anyone's guess
  9. There you are then I answered part of your question, now try and find someone "Qualified" to fit your stove. Can you let me have their number when you find them. A
  10. Hello Junior, Can you tell me why someone selling a boat would want to accept a "cheeky offer" from you so you can spend 2 grand fitting a solid fuel stove when there is already a heating system ( not to your preference) installed ? A 2 grand is about right these days for a professional install, views will differ, then so do professionals
  11. If the wicks have got soaked it will smoke for a good while but should burn off. A
  12. Thought it was there in case I ran out of logs. Bow thruster does me fine A
  13. For genuine CCers, (yes there are still some) who have to run their engine each day for 3/4 hours for domestic purposes, then surely the propulsion element of fuel use is almost a bi product of everyday living. Over a year the actual fuel used solely for propulsion i.e. when domestic heating and charging duties have been fulfilled will be miniscule. Diving for cover! A
  14. If I saw those on a boat I would be thinking they were there to stop the occupants getting out !! A
  15. Hi Mr Bizzard Solder fittings, be they capillary ring or solder-less end feed fittings are fine for all domestic gas systems, though someone is coming to shoot me down on domestic LPG no doubt. A
  16. Hi, Its possible you have seen a Bimini fitted to a narrowboat Linky A
  17. Facinating NOT!!!! Not much help to the OP either A
  18. Hi Eberspacher usually use red for +and brown for - as you already said. The mini-timer wiring colours are red + brown - yellow switch feed ie + to make the heater run and blue is diagnostics. Usually the connection of the first 3 will get the unit up and running Hope this helps. If you are using a road vehicle kit make sure you buy the correct marine exhaust system, the road vehicle silencers are only suitable for installation outside a vehicle because they are not gas tight. unless you can find a way of mounting the silencer outside the boat A
  19. I certainly wouldn't use T cut, far too harsh for boat enamels. "Finesse it" by 3M and the afore said elbow grease should bring the paint up to an good standard. A
  20. Hi, I don't think your model of timer has the function to unlock the ecu. A
