We had an unusual experience last week on the Oxford canal. We saw no less than four 3 person teams performing maintenance within about a 10 mile stretch. Allen's lock - filling a hole in the bank below the lock. Aynho Weir Lock - performing PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE on the bottom gate - replacing the post holding the paddle gear which had split but had not actually failed. Kings Sutton lock - piling below the lock Grants lock - not sure what they were up to. I also saw Athy out on Trojan on the same stretch - so CRT may have been making a special effort to ease his passage...

Is that the wreck of the boat that spent a few weeks hard aground by Somerleyton bridge in the pictures?

Are you aware ofany actual evidence that eating out in did increase the spread of the disease over and above the transmission which was occurring from any other form of recreation and social mixing which was going on at the time?

You are probably right. Sawing is probably too dangerous anyway, on the basis that the boat might topple. Attaching a rope to the barrier using grappling hooks and pulling it off the stanchions from the opposite bank would probably have been a better option.
