  1. I've often moored here with no issues but wouldn't leave my boat unattended.
  2. https://www.wigantoday.net/news/wigan-canal-boat-home-goes-up-in-flames-after-suspected-arson-attack-4033305
  3. Anyway Connor, despite the Spanish Inquisition you are now a signed up member of CWF and should anyone require your services they can contact you and satisfy themselves of your suitability. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have met you and do not doubt it.
  4. I have met Connor on a couple of occasions when he was moving boats. All I can say is that he seems a genuinely hard-working and conscientious chap.
  5. The Lancaster Canal's northern terminus was in Kendal, Westmorland.
  6. Also, I find that I need to place the dipstick flat against a piece of paper to read the level otherwise it's nearly impossible to see.
  7. Regarding the PRM 120 gearbox oil question, I contacted PRM technical dept several years ago and was told "put in whatever you use in the engine" (mineral oil), so that is what I have always done. I'm probably tempting fate by saying this, but it is approaching 5000 hours without any issues.
  8. They are usually spot on in my experience. They have the benefit of turnover.
  9. Indeed. Where else can you get a curry, naan, poppadoms, mango chutney, and a decent pint of Doom Bar for £9?
  10. To be fair, it's not rocket-science, but for the novice there are some nuggets in the book. It's so long since I've read it that I've just fished it out of the cupboard and checked to confirm this.
  11. The most useful book you'll ever read when learning to single-hand: https://www.canalbookshop.co.uk/home/boating/going-it-alone.html
  12. Sorry to hear that. I've moored there a few times before without issue but never left the boat unattended overnight.
  13. I stayed there for a few nights this summer without any issues. I actually found the basin quite interesting and it's a great base to explore the city from.
  14. What time did you arrive at the flight? It says last entry 12pm, open daily.
  15. It was just an update on 27/10 to the original April notice, easily missed. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/21826-navigation-restriction-lock-1-leeds-to-lock-86-wigan-leeds-and-liverpool-canal
  16. Hopefully CRT have now replaced the missing 48hr signage at these sites, which should help to improve availability.
  17. Indeed, when I was there earlier this year I was chatting to the CRT chap who said it was his job every morning to run water down those locks. I also had to close gates which were open.
  18. I had no significant queues anywhere, but perhaps this was fortunate timing. If memory serves me correctly there was a paddle out of action somewhere but it didn't cause any significant issues at the time.
  19. And very good, reasonably priced cask ale too.
  20. I'm pretty sure someone was filling up with water when I passed a few weeks ago. I don't know about the Elsan.
  21. I enjoy working locks and prefer to operate them myself. Where I think the volunteers add the most value is at the bottle-necks like Grindley Brook, helping to keep things moving smoothly and giving guidance to new boaters. I'd rather forfeit the opportunity to have sole operation of the occasional locks like these than be held up for hours of chaos.
  22. It's quite simple: you just say "I'm ok thanks", and get on with it.
  23. When I went though last week the volockies were absolutely fine and doing an excellent job of marshalling and assisting boaters.
