  1. In last years floods, there were a couple of boats sunk as the pound level rose above the towpath, one in Cosgrove!! Coming out of SB bottom lock is fun when it's really up, you can get some serious speed on the first half mile. We are probably going that way, and arent worried.

  3. Suck it out as above, or use compressed air to blow it out.
  4. There has been a particularly bad batch of Excel produced recently, which has caused many problems. Jules Fuels and Ryan have refused to order any until a new batch is produced. If you have old stock, treasure it, mine was bought last June and is excellent.
  5. Paul J, Captain Pegg , Nigel Carton and another Paul(Noddyboater) are all known to me as professional, fully insured boat movers on the forum. No, I no longer manage to fit any in between paint jobs.
  6. That's the one we always use, batteries, old cauliflowers, scrap piping, scrap cables, scrap water pumps etc. Nothing metal goes in the bins.
  7. Woolworths paint was very consistent and good quality.
  8. He might have done, but the colours I used on Halsall worked perfectly, and matched Stanton.... which isnt in Brian's fleet.
  9. So, no Mike, not worth bothering with.
  10. Dont tell him about the steam trains.....
  11. Its lovely once you get out of Stoke, it's a must do. However, the river sections might be a bit feisty after this weeks rain, they do calm down quite quickly though.
  12. If it's a C get the bowthruster tube looked at, as they havnt blacked a single one I've seen launched in the last 10 years....and that's more than my fingers and toes...
  13. You would be amazed at how many boats we get in which have cardboard panels behind their vents, or even kingspan blocks. There is one local boat who seals all his hatches, mushrooms and doors with gaffer tape, it's a pig to do work on his boat as when he comes home he re-instates all the stuff and we have to remove it again next day!!
  14. You mean this Teddington Lock.... https://www.itv.com/news/london/2024-03-06/london-lock-pumped-full-of-raw-sewage-creating-environmental-hazard
  15. Just in case some still dont believe how corrupt the entire British privatised water companies are... But obviously, it cant be true as its....
  16. Looks like Dudley Parish Church, in the right place too...
  17. We had 2 boats in for floor replacement in January/Feb. Both had experienced long term under floor water problems which wasnt dealt with. Retro fitting flooring is far more difficult than putting down new, as everything is built on top of floor, cupboards, steps, toilet , sink units, showers, etc etc.
  18. Unless it's at the weekend, then have a look first, as the staff member who switches it off probably isnt back at work until Monday at 8am
  19. They had crap cameras in those days...very low res....

  22. I used my Squirrel for about 10 years before I even realised that most people used baffle plates... On long journeys in Winter, I could chuck twigs down the chimbley to keep the fire going during the day without having to go inside the boat!
  23. If you are chickening out of your North Sea expedition, and prefer the Middle Level maelstrom, you can pick up the CWDF middle level windlass and March services key from a boat near Weedon. Nicknorman borrowed last year, and it was returned by CaptainPegg. Courtesy of GUMPY Nene Free Services.
  24. Err, no, not in a narrowboat... Out of the Nene via Wisbech and back in at either Boston or Kings Lynn. The trip to Gt Yarmouth is for proper well prepared and kitted out sea going craft.
  25. Is that really supposed to make you want to live on the (Icknield) Port Loop village....its a disgrace.
