  1. Not true it needs to be connected to the non battery side of the shunt (where the other two connections are). It's in a manual somewhere!! Regards Roger
  2. Hi Philippe You may need to use the old software version of VE configure.exe (v9003120) Note this version also needs Datfile (v20050703)to run the software (save it to the same folder as VE configure) Both are available free from the Victron website. Regards Roger
  3. Hi Dave that unit will certainly do the job. I personally use this GSM AUTO which has the advantage you can just call it from any phone and it doesn't cost for the call. I think it is a bit more expensive though. The unit needs a 12v fused supply L&N, insert a link from the 12v L connection to the COM connection on the unit. Create a link from the yellow wire going to the Eberspacher controller/ mini timer and connect it to the NO contact on the unit. You should be up and running. Regards Roger
  4. Oh dear, were people were right telling me not to bother trying to help on forums? You see Nick this was my main job, Specifying, installing and commissioning Mastervolt ( my preferred equipment) Victron and Travel power units to all work in the 35 boats we built. Some far advanced from your fairly simple set up. If the mood takes you please tell the forum how you can adjust the charge characteristics on a Beta Marine standard 175A alternator. You are wrong in so many ways with your last post I really didn't want to bite. I assume your arrogance saw my meagre 80 odd posts and sent you into newbie pounding mode. Well "Grumpy" it may stick I'll leave you to have your own bun fight. Roger
  5. Why is it when sensible suggestions are being put forward someone pops up to rubbish them. The most probable reason the Victron switches to inverter mode is the fact it has lost 230v source i.e. the TP is not producing. Quote "may drop out" The switching off of the TP was a suggestion quote "try" For your information Nick, the charging voltage won't be adjusted at the batteries as long as that alternator is spinning, no matter what the Victron is doing or saying.
  6. Hi Monsoon, I hope the following goes some way to answering your questions:- 1) The travel power running at 1200 rpm may drop out if the demand from the charger is high, causing the Victron to go to Inverter mode. Try increasing the engine revs. Presuming you have the new model travel power, with the two fans on the front it should give you an indication of its operation / revs too low etc, on the front panel. 2) The Charger running in conjunction with the secondary alternator can give false readings. Try charging with the TP turned off. Providing the BVM600 has been synchronised properly it should be capable of giving a better overview of the batteries charge state. Has the Multiplus had all the parameters set correctly, this really requires the use of the Victron software and computer connection cables. When the charger goes into float, what is the charge value (both volts and amps) read from the BVM? 3) Its very likely your batteries are not getting enough charge time and could be sulphating. 4) Yes the alternator will still be producing charge voltage. 5) This can be dependant on the power share settings in the Victron, switch it to charger only to be sure the TP is solely providing the input to the Washing machine via the pass through facility. Regards Roger
  7. Hi Nev I wouldn't use anything less than 25mm2 (with that size alternator, usually bigger), its not just about the current carrying capacity of the cable. The less voltage drop you introduce into the equation the better charging you will get. Regards Roger
  8. Hi Nev, 13mm2 sounds way too small. To determine the correct cable size for the relay supplied with the Smartbank Advanced, we need to know the maximum output of each charging source. Battery bank size is not relevant. (if it was,the supplied 180A relay would be useless) I hope this helps Regards Roger
  9. I'll second that, we always feared the trip. Totally unfounded, we have done it in both directions in the last 2 months and really enjoyed it. Regards Roger
  10. Hi, yes just flush with water. Regards Roger
  11. Looks like a spell in rehab could be in order The part the OP is quoting is for a much later model than yours. The o ring actually forms a water tight seal of the water jacket i.e between the heat exchanger and outer body , nothing to do with the burner assembly. Regards Roger
  12. Hi, the 3mm x74mm O ring does as you suggest fit in between the heat exchanger and outer casing. I'd go with Bobbybass and not even try to remove the heat exchanger unless you have a problem, just give it a flushing through. Regards Roger
  13. Hi Pete, good point about budget obviously, though Lewis has spent a ton of money on solars and such like. If they had been better advised by a professional then may be the basics would have been sorted ( ie the stuff that works all winter) If I remember correctly the boat was more or less a lined sail-away when they bought it with a standard Beta 38 with twin alternators, doesn't Lewis add earlier that his sparky fitted the split charge diode? Cheers Roger
  14. Hi, the best split charge system for you is the Smartbank, you already have the Smartgauge it would be a no brainer to fit anything else. Sounds like your sparky is back in the dark ages. Roger
  15. Hi, why don't you stick with Portland basin? They Diy or do it for you. You can stay aboard. I can never understand why anyone would lift their boat out, with all the associated risks of a boat dangling about on a jib, when they can have it docked. Plus you could be one of the first to experience the new "Mega" power washer Portland Basin are installing in their covered dry dock. They also have on site BSS certification Prices are on their website Prices Regards Roger
  16. The water filters we used to fit in our boats, fed from SS tanks, for drinking and cooking are from General Ecology. They always had a stand at Crick show. Their party trick was to take water direct from the canal, put it through their filter and drink it. I wouldn't have a second thought of doing the same if I needed to, I find the C&RT water points are frequent enough to save me from having to do so.
  17. Hi I was going to send you a PM but you have not made enough posts for this facility to be enabled, I think its 5 You can view my profile and email me from there and I can give you the information. regards Roger
  18. Hi Mike Give theses guys a call Calfire They service the units. You probably do need to get out more Cheers Roger
  19. Hi Nick Use PU glue, and prop the ply panels in place, using spare lining battens with something on the end to protect the veneer, until the glue sets. You can get the glue with short setting times. Wear gloves it will not come off skin. You will find that secondary fixings by screws or pins are not necessary Hope this helps Roger LINK
  20. Well said Bowten If it is the one with the two fans at the front then the 12v is on a plug and socket, so easy to test if 12v available when ignition is on. ( Derr why couldn't they paint the latest one Lilac or something) Roger
  21. Hi at only 2 years old it is more likely to be the Silver control box version which does not have a 12v connection. The likely reason for not working is that the alternator will need re-energising i.e.flashing with a 12v supply. Regards Roger
  22. Hi, There is a water point by the side of the dry dock at Taylors Boat yard in the basin below Northgate Locks Cheers Roger
  23. This season more than any I have been amazed to see the amount of boaters, private / share and hire, who have deemed to keep their boat at the rear of the lock when descending. Many within a foot or two of the cill whilst they have five or six times that space in front of the boat.
  24. Hi Bruce You have me intrigued on this one, you have a Beta 43 with I guess the deluxe panel which has a very basic temp gauge. How are you determining temp rise within a couple of degrees? All the best Roger
