  1. What has this got to do with railway stations?
  2. Thing to remember is the Cheshires rely on water coming not only from the reserviors but a certain amount coming from the Macclesfield and Caldon canals, the Macclesfield being closed due to a breach and the Caldon relying on the River Churnet that's 2 supplies drying up its hardly surprising when the T&M also runs short ! People seem to have forgotten how things were in 1976 and we've had less rain this winter than the winter of 75 ! Weather forecast is lots of rain next week and as I'm on holiday it's guaranteed! Lol
  3. I can think of one back in late 90s where a boat called Tawny Owl was stolen, it was recovered after I recalled meeting it in Lapworth locks. It was getting dark and we were at the last lock before the top lock and the boat with 2 males came down, they were trying to hide their faces which seemed odd at the time but I just dismissed it as some people see naturally unfriendly! The following day we were in the centre of Birmingham when we were asked if we'd seen it. We gave the info we had and the next day it was recovered heading for Hatton Anglo Welsh lost one that took months to recover after it failed to return off a 2 week hire. Vaguely remember Holly but again like the AW boat it was hired to be stolen As for Que Sera Sera I suspected that it never existed and was a ghost boat i:e only existed on paper and a well organised insurance fraud, I may be wrong on this though
  4. Is it OK if your schizophrenic? Asking hor a friend obviously! Lol
  5. Same here! Lol
  6. On that score Chichester is a short 200m from Southgate Basin on the Chichester Ship Canal, Ford and Barnham are within a 1/4 Mile of the derelict Chichester & Arundel Canal section of the Portsmouth to Arundel canal, North Walsham is about 2 miles to Briggste and Ebridge Locks and a little further to Bacton Wood on the Norrh Walsham & Dilham Canal. Welshpool on the isolated section of the Monty. Banavie is by the canal às is Falkirk, Fort William and Inverness in Scotland
  7. Looks like Santon on the Little Ouse
  8. Anson Branch of the BCN ? I believe a lot of it still exists unlike its companion the Bentley which is now under a shopping centre Also the Stourbridge extension beyond Bromley stop lock is still therefor a short distance What about the original Delph locks not sure who owns the remains ?
  9. You have to climb up the bank onto the old railway bridge, that's what I've always done
  10. Because he's not the PM lol !
  11. There's a long way to go as there have been 880+ seperate canals, navigations and rivers that have existed at some point in time!
  12. And Consall can't get one any closer !
  13. I have a list of canals never built but will have to open this map up on a bigger screen and see if I have missed many. It's often a case of very little detail survives unless it was submitted to parliament often just a line on a map!
  14. Additionally LTC ( Tom) Rolt also wrote the Landscape with series and Silver & Green all a good read Then there's Canals are my life and canals are my home by Iris Bryce Thames to the Solent by JB Dashwood
  15. Don't know of any cabin drawings as I previously looked for them when building my boat, I have copies of both Motor and Butty Large Woolwich drawings courtesy of the late Mr Hogg. We scaled the Motor to reduce the height taking 9" out the middle so the Gunnel height was 9" less and she draws 2'7" instead of 3'3" otherwise an exact copy of the original hull
  16. I'd looked at this sometime ago and it's a fascinating place with so much going on. Really like the pictures that djhow what remains
  17. Yes Chris the only lock named is Milton and fro. What I can see the Navigable bit extended to the Abbey In absence of actual names I've temded to call them X lock because it's adjacent to X place and often there is but one reference to a specific lock on just one map and unless you pick that particular edition you dont see it! even on waterways we think we know there's always that lock that was moved / removed Braunstone Gate and Swan's Mill in Leicester being good examples
  18. Further to previous comment I have just found a previous article you wrote about the Cuckmere River in which you reference a 3rd lock at Arlington this is one I hadn't found despite previous attempts I only had Milton and was attempting to find a name for no.2 at Berwick
  19. You'd be surprised how I gain stuff, you might make a reference to something and that leads to me looking at what you've said in more depth and seeing something I might otherwise miss
  20. Will do. Currently up dating my list in Excel into an in depth word document that will eventually be like Bradshaw's / Priestley's but including every waterway in the UK
  21. This is an interesting subject as there are several waterways where navigation is positively discouraged but the legal right is in dispute the R. Severn above Bewdley, the River Derwent and the North Walsham & Dilham Canal (Wayford to Honing) are 3 I can think of
  22. I have not included Ireland in the total as listed separately but have 271 in Ireland but, that list is far from complete and is compiled from maps etc and information gained from Patrick Moss who is more knowledgeable than Me on the Irish Waterways. I don't have any Proposed locks in Ireland currently I've concentrated on South Wales, Scotland and now looking at the area from Boston up the Witham, Fossdyke and the Forty foot Drains
  23. Thanks Mike yes I have both as staircase locks With today's finds I now have 4383, 156 proposed not built and 184 proposed for the future
  24. Never seen the left hand side that's brilliant had never realised that the drawing had both sides as only ever seen the right hand
