  1. I've often thought about that. Mine just spin up/down on a long bolt and are removed with ease. Anyone any ideas on how to make them non-removable but still be able to spin up/down ?
  2. If they are nylon, take them back to the swindlers where you bought them and they should have a cutter that heat seals the ends to what ever length you require.
  3. Ebay limekilnlimitedchandlers £15.80 inc P & P for 500ml
  4. Would that be 1 SHOT High/Low Temp Reducer ?
  5. I'm using car body type filler. I've already applied a primer first. Will the filler still adhere to the primed surface ??
  6. After applying vactan yesterday afternoon. When I went to start work on the roof this morning the vactan had bled all over the roof and down the sides between the handrails and, it's a pig to remove as it seeps into the paintwork. It was dry by 2pm Anyone know why this has happened ?
  7. But, most blacking needs at least 24hrs to cure before being submerged doesn't it?
  8. What about one of these for getting into awkward spaces... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=black+and+decker+power+file+sander&client=firefox-a&hs=wrU&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=2GmoU_7FKMPT0QXJsoGwAg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=640#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=r9VIGUy3L32FBM%253A%3Btp1EEX0JWrvUPM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.clasohlson.com%252Fmedias%252Fsys_master%252F8872522448926.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.clasohlson.com%252Fuk%252FBlack-%2526amp%253B-Decker-KA900E-Powerfile%252F18-1125%3B600%3B373
  9. Just started sanding the roof on my boat. It has lots of smallish rust spots due to having kayaks on the roof and they have caused scratches over the years. I have sanded and applied rust killer. Do I now apply primer first and then filler or the other way around??
  10. I have the same problem around my collar. But my problem is down to the tar coming out of the hat and running down the side of the collar and, onto the roof. I think it may be due to the sulphur which comes out of the tar and it's very corrosive. I have used vactan/filler primer and, it just comes back after a period. Regards to vactan. I found out when I gave my wood burner a coat of the stuff that, it doesn't like heat. After applying, the stove looked fantastic.I later applied some stove paint and, within 2 months it all peeled off.
  11. Not mine. I just get a polished area of blacking. I use the rubber that they put down in playground areas for kids around swings/roundabouts etc, and just cut them into rectangles along the pontoon.
  12. Very considerate indeed. Last week we had a narrowboat next to us who, started his engine at 5am. He left it running until 6.30am then decided to move on...what a B@@t@@d!!
  13. There is a boat on the Lancaster canal and it has a piano onboard. Boat name 'Pianissimo'
  14. Did exactly the same when crossing the Ribble Link. They even advise this at Tarleton
  15. I had a wasp building a nest in my cratch last month. I caught it and took it more than 200mts away from my boat and let it go. Next day it was back. It slipped under the shrunken cratch cover and started building in the same spot. They must have homing sensors. There are 300 plus boats on this marina so how on earth did it find mine again? PS: Forgot to say that I only give them one opportunity so, I flattened it the second time. Lovely nails. Do you play the guitar? Possible no. Just realized that's your left hand.
  16. I might 3rd it. I recently painted my roof with Rylards cream. After it rained on it a few days later the dirt in the rain seems to have become embedded in the paint and it is now stained. Why?
  17. We dropped onto the Weaver intending a one day visit. We stayed 3 weeks! Lovely river and, massive locks as it was commercial from the Mersey many years ago. The biggest can hold 18 x 60' narrowboats. We were in it alone and felt very small indeed! One thing I did notice was, when we sailed passed the ICI plant which was so baron there was no birds singing or, other wildlife....Makes you wonder. The beast of a lock
  18. What about nitromorse for stripping back to bare metal? Brush is far lighter than that beast of a machine. OK I know this wouldn't work on a rusty surface
  19. I experimented 1yr ago by painting my handrails &, sliding hatch in red oxide with owatrol added. It has a nice matt finish which I like. The rails were red before and after 2 years they changed to an awful pink colour, I presume because red is known for having little or no pigment.
  20. I presume you are talking about the base plate? as, the normal steel thicknesses used are 10/6/5/4 being Base plate/Hull sides/Superstructure/Roof Glad the survey went well. Enjoy her now.
  21. Very Traditional..... .attracts moisture Attracts even more moisture and very tacky just like wallpaper. By tacky I wasn't referring to sticky substances
  22. I believe paint thickness nowadays won't cover up a hulls thickness as it's all done with sonar readings now and, anyway when it wasn't they would scrap off the paint to test the hull thickness. Like the old days when cars use to rust around the wheel arches people would pile them with filler then the cleaver buyer would go around them with a magnet to identify where filler had been applied. And, why not negotiate? it's a buyers market...
  23. When you say the bottom needs painting/blacking, it's usually blacking. In some instances people apply red oxide then bitumen. Jeff Sherwood is the resident mechanic on site and he is OK. He's done work for me in the past.
