  1. We did it anticlockwise a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time and had no problems with the "little darlings", but it was mid week and out of school holidays. Night out in Manchester was great. Rochdale Nine was so full of water it was over the tow path in places (at least where there is one !) so some inventive lock wheeling was required and getting on and off the boat does need some agility at times. If you've not experianced water cascading over the lock gates before it can be a bit unerving at first. We only had the two of us and it required both of us to operate the gates on some occasions. We loved it and would do it again and have lots of other stories about the trip. Dont be put off. Lewis.
  2. Hi Mike, Thanks for your comments. The regulator was new 5 years ago and has made this "singing " noise ever since installation. It is worse when the cooker and Aldi are on at the same time. I think I'll get it replaced for peace of mind sakes. Cheers Lewis
  3. Just passed Boat Safety so much relief, but the examiner mentioned that the gas regulator was "noisy" and asked if it had always been like that? As it has I said yes but subsiquently wondered if it has any relevence ( the gas system checked out as "perfect"). Any comments greatfully recieved. Lewis.
  4. Couldnt agree more. Carbon monoxide is colourless and for practical considerations odourless, and Deadly. Every one should have one.
  5. Words never seem enough at a time like this. Please accept our heart felt sorrow for your tragic loss. Nigel & Jenny
  6. A happy boater is a contented boater
  7. Only two sorts of boaters. Those that have fallen in and those that are going to fall in!
  8. Ours did. Measured at 6' 11.5'' amidships. Said we should find out from vendor if he had ever encountered problems. As it was from Chirk and built in the Midlands we thought it would be OK, but got a trip up and down Hurlston to proove it. No problems so we bought it.
  9. I tried the Tap Dancing but kept falling into the sink!
  10. To use a football analogy...... Here we go, here we go, here we go. Hope its in the right direction.
  11. Good Luck with your new life. Hope all goes to plan.
  12. We got some of these about a year ago and eventually settled on a Dunlopillo rather than memory foam. Great Service from: Foam for Comfort, Unit 2, Wyther Lane, Kirkstall, Leeds. LS5 3BT. 0845 345 8101 . We have no connection with this company and their mail order service was very prompt and they will do any size that you want.
  13. What about if the prompt payment equation was only applied to boaters over the age of 80 and only if both parents were present at the issue of the licence All this is smoke and mirrors to hide a stealth tax on the majority of us who choose to be honest and abide by the rules.......No change there then!!!
  14. Absolutly not. Abbey was good, but Kate O'Mara did it for me especilly the topless bit in the middle of the North Sea. Not difficult to look "cool" out there.
  15. What about "Triangle" now thats a classic not to be missed. True quality from the BBC. Dont get em like that any more. Full of classic sailing scenes and a strong compelling story line.

    chimmneys!

Hi again kendo, I would have said we were almost paranoid about checking things were safe before retiring for the night. I worked for 30 years in the airline industry where safety is of ultimate importance. The alarm is the final backup to take account of circumstances that are unforseeable. Ours is a squirrel and I can not explain how the door came open other than by "pilot error". We now both check the door last thing rather than just one of us doing it. I could not recommend one unit with a read out however, I think DICON do make one. Regards. Lewis
  17. Thats only ok if its a "swinger" bridge

    chimmneys!

Hi Kendo, We got ours from B&Q and it is a "DICON" or somthing like that. It does not have a digital read out but when it goes off its bloody noisy. We possitioned ours in the bedroom on the rear bulk head about a foot from the cabin roof and over the bed head, we test it regularly. Ours was set off because the catch on the stove door "failed" and the door opened slightly letting combustion products into the cabin. This happened after we had gone to bed and we were awoke at about 2 in the morning with it beeping like mad. Lucky or what! We are not bothered by "false" alerts when we put fuel on the fire with it in its current location. Hope this helps. Lewis

    chimmneys!

The squirrel on our boat performs well and it has a stepped down flu with a length of about 2 meters from the top of the body of the stove. We get some problems with fumes entering the boat when we open the door but this is less if its a bit windy outside (more "draw"). If you dont have one you must get a carbon monoxide detector and position it correctly. We have one and it saved our lives recently.
  20. They piddle and poo continuously and carry some particularly nasty diseases. Wapper trap and peanut butter as bait. Dont delay otherwise there will be loads of them in days at this time of the year as they are desperate for food. No they are not cute!
  21. Domestic control says that that BW are quite welcome to look at her in the buff using bino's. She says that it might encourage them to cut down on the booze, stop smoking, eat your five a day and do 30mins excersise daily. It would also be a big boost to her morale (? sp) if they didnt immediately look away.
  22. Proper anglers dont use poles. Theres no skill in plonking the bait exactly where you want it using a pole. Get a rod out and get casting. The old skills are going to the dogs. Poles are another european import we could well do without. My old dad would be rotating in his grave if could see all this pole fishing nonsense..........Really enjoyed this first grump of the year.
  23. Not really relevent to the OP but worth bearing in mind that a leaking tap can also cause the pump to cycle on and off. I spent hours looking for a leak before the domestic authorities spotted an intermittant drip from the shower tap. New washer solved it.
  24. Forget the speed thing. Set off and stop when you've had enough, and start again when you've had enough of being stopped.
