  1. Just altered it so it "flows" a bit better.
  2. Shine NBoat shine Fill this land with polishers glory Blaze paint blaze Set our hearts on fire Flow river flow Flood the canals with shiney boaters Send forth your Brasso and let there be dazz'ling shine With sincere apologies to Graham Kendrick
  3. A "Terence" one for comparison: Had it for just over 4 years now. It lives on the roof when we use the boat. It has not fallen apart and is used on occasions for its intended purpose and dosen't leak.
  4. Fire extinguisher? You'll possibly need one of these Nick:
  5. I did that and found this..... http://www.classicboathardware.com/ Any good?
  6. Do you mean these: http://www.midlandchandlers.co.uk/Products/Ventilation/RoofVents/AV112.aspx or http://www.mailspeedmarine.com/boat-vents-ventilation/ec-smith/tannoy-ventilite1012453.bhtml Or most chandlers.
  7. I've mentioned it before and I'll say it again "My boat is shiny and I like it that way". She gets polished twice a year, Autumn and Spring. I unashamedly care for and look after my boat. I have used this example before but just look a pictures of Mimas and Ray crewed by the Stokes family circa 1950's, there are some shiny boats, immaculately kept Must go and find my Craftmaster polish...... PS I get a warped satisfaction from polishing brass as well.

  9. To my eyes the can is elegant simplicity. I am no "canal artist", but I like what I see.
  10. Could this be a consequence, although may be misguided, of "The Nigel Moore" episode?

  12. The brass / bronze / whatever metal it is, windlass in the display, has a Cooke Pipe embossed in it. So is it a forgery, the real deal or what? My personal feeling is that the description is wrong rather than the artifact.
  13. Sorry to read about this Starry. Would it be an idea to PM Bones to see how she delt with her mishap when NB Bones was hit when on the Thames?
  14. From museum at Stoke Breuerne:
  15. From Jim Shed: SILOAM Built by STEELCRAFT/GREENTOUR - Length 14.63 metres (48 feet ) - Beam 2.07 metres (6 feet 9 inches ) - Draft 0.07 metres ( 3 inches ) Metal hull, power of 30 BHP. Easter eggs.

One of my collection of mother's in law came from Newcastle on Tyne and on Easter day we used to "jarp" hard boiled eggs. Then eat them with salt, cheese and hot cross buns. http://en.wikipedia....iki/Egg_tapping She used to boil them wrapped in onion skins so they had pretty patterns on them.

To be honest I haven't sailed on an offshore yacht that has a dolly - All have had cleats. Clove hitches are mainly used to secure the fenders to the safety rails when in port. Most pontoons have cleats as well. Some harbours have mooring rings as do piles when they are used for mooring, and always the mooring rope is secured on the boat. Bouys are also used for mooring e.g off Yarmouth IOW. I am not sure whether your question is tongue in cheek? But I have moored in Lulworth Cove using the anchor.

When I sail offshore I have always used a clove hitch (what I was taught by the National Sailing School Cowes) and never had any problems in 40 years. Like Richard it works for me.

Where to please? A ring, a bollard, a spike or Armco? These are what I use Ring, If it is the bow, rope through the ring then figure of eight round the T stud. If it is the stern through the ring and then a clove hitch round the dolly. A bollard, a canal or lighterman's hitch or one complete turn round the bollard and back to the boat. Spike, a clove hitch so if the spike pulls it won't be lost in the cut Armco I either use piling hooks or chains and rope up as a ring. Others will differ.
