  1. Hi all, long time no post. Sold The Moorhen after 3 years continuous cruising and gone back to dry land. It was great but all good things have to end sometime. On behalf of our son I am after some advice maybe from someone who's already tackled the same problem. He currently lives on a widebeam 57' x 10'6 near York. He's thinking of moving the boat south to Tewkesbury. It is probably going to be best to take it somewhere like Goole, get it craned out and transported all the way but much more fun to turn it into a holiday and sail it to one of the choke points, crane it out, transport it to the nearest convenient point on the south side and then cruise on to Tewkesbury. What does the panel suggest? All the best, Jami
  2. Hi all, thanks for the replies, I went with Alan Maxwell. Nice guy and good service. Just needed a couple of signs for location of 'cut-offs' and other than that passed with flying colours.
  3. Hi all, We have a narrowboat currently in Gloucester Docks, we need to organise a new Boat Safety Certificate in the next few days. Please could anyone suggest an examiner who will do an inspection for us at fairly short notice. Thanks very much.
  4. Jenlyn. I am a paid up member of ACC. I am not at all impressed by the argumentive and aggressive attitude you, as the head honcho of the association, display as my representative on this forum.
  5. Pushing on the wrong side of the lock gate arm and wondering why I couldn't shift it! This was at the end of the day having pushed each and every other one the right way.
  6. Jane and I have had a change of plans and will no longer be taking part in the Challenge. Good luck to you all and we hope to make it next year. All the best, Mike.
  7. No, we only think we do.....well, I speak for myself really ;-)
  8. Thank you Martin but I've already tried that and it won't open, says its invalid.
  9. Hi Neil, I've been trying to get hold of you by PM, could you drop me a reply please? My apologies to the board for the disruption. Jami
  10. Aaahhhhh, thank you, found it! And the reason I couldn't find the answer anywhere is because he hasn't answered! It's Hairy Neil I'd like to speak to, so if anyone knows him could you give him a heads up please. I'll also start a new thread to give him a shout.
  11. Hi, I sent someone a p m where do I find their reply please?
  12. I was advised to buy a ready shaped pick axe handle....anyone had experience with this approach?
  13. A pair of novices here, thinking they'll have a go too. The Moorhen Mike & Jane (Hence JaMi Dodgers!)
  14. Oh give it up for goodness sake. It's a tenner, less than you'd pay for a round of drinks, join or don't join, your call.
  15. Did somebody mention smug? Sunshine all day and 36 degrees C here! South Western Australia. Here for a month's holiday :-) Boat's in Selby, hope it's ok.
  16. How many double decker buses per blue whale? How many voles per double decker? How many double deckers in bridge holes? :-)
  17. Hi, we're currently on the Lancaster Canal, does anyone have a signal crayfish pot they no longer use that they may be interested in selling please? Post or pm thanks.
  18. A hog roast bun each, a cup of coffee each and a 99 each......and she says I spoil her!!
  19. An edit to my edit. Thank you. I don't need to take it any further.
  20. Thanks for the reply Chris. I didn't express myself very clearly did I. I should de-clutter the question:- When on a flowing waterway, ie a river are there any regulations that forbid me anchoring away from the bankside? Provided of course that I choose the spot with care so as not to cause any likely inconvenience to other boaters. And I avoid anywhere that signage advises me of the presence of underwater cables or obstructions etc Having anchored can I then propel a dingy, by whatever means with my wife and myself in it to a public landing spot such a steps or pontoon and go ashore? Edited to say I have decided to open a new thread to ask this question so it doesn't clutter up this thread by taking it off topic.
  21. Just slightly OT. If one arrives at somewhere on a river with limited pontoon space, like Upton and not able to moor, can you anchor (obviously not mid-channel) and go by dingy to a suitable landing spot, tie up and go ashore?
  22. With cap lock held down the easiest combination is C&RT.
  23. Just asking.....where does the clock start and stop when you are timing a lock flight?
