  1. Thanks for all those suggestions - I will pass them on. Cheers Alan
  2. My mother is looking to hire a boat this year, but she would ideally like to have the added comfort of a wood burning stove. Does anyone know of any hire companies that offer boats with stoves? From what I've been able to find, there doesn't seem to be any around - certanly not the main players. Thanks Alan
  3. Would you be able to get an extension to the insurance to cover you for tidal bits for the short period that you would need it? Might be worth a phone call
  4. I have an Orbit II XDA and it works fine - this is just running Windows Mobile with an older version of Internet Explorer and is pretty useable. Some websites don't display well but CWDF works just fine.
  5. There's a slight dusting on Salford Quays tonight, but not much. Sitting in a hotel rather than on a boat though :-(

  8. Got it and reported it to Liam this morning (sorry Liam, couldn't find a way to send PM to multiple people!) Don't know if anything's been done about the account yet or not...

  10. I came across this several years ago now through the MoneySavingExpert site that has all sorts of good money saving tips
  11. There used to be a few on the Shroppie. Can't exactly remember where but somewhere between Audlem and Market Drayton...
  12. FFS Don't you find this tedious? Haven't you got anything better to do than bicker?
  13. Have you thought about going slightly further afield? From the top of Llangollen, you've only got one way to go really and it gets very busy over the summer. I would be tempted to have a slightly longer drive and think about Swanley/Venetian/Church Minshall(sp?)/Tattonhall/etc on he Shroppie. I think these would only be in the order of an hours drive but opens up many more opportunities in terms of cruising options. Just a thought...
  14. We were at Swanley at the weekend and while they have a few boats, they didn't have many. They said that they'd been having a good turn over of boats with several coming on the market in the last week or so
  15. IIRC there was an article about them on a wildlife programme - probably either Springwatch or Autumnwatch and I believe they were for owls.
  16. Some marina's don't like you "working" on your boat while within the marina, so it would be worth checking your T&C's
  17. This may be the kind of service you could add on to your "diesel fitter" skills. I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say you're a diesel fitter - but if this is something like servicing engines, then adding that on top would make it attractive to many I'm sure. Good luck with it though!
  18. I could listen to that all day, it's a fab sound! Maybe I should add it to my iPod

  20. Excellent news; always good to hear of restoration projects getting some decent funding Well done Magpie Patrick!
  21. I know it might sound obvious (and you've probably tried it) but I like to ask silly questions... Have you tried lifting the engine further to then be able to release the catch?
  22. You could also try ground sheets - they aren't that expensive at all and should come with eyelets in them as well. We've always got one in the boot of the car as you never know when you'll need one and they take up no room at all.
  23. Might sound daft, but would a gazzebo be any help? Say a 10' square one then you can tie it to the off side of the boat and give you a couple of feet of cover on the near side. They fold away to basically nothing and could be handy when all this global warming brings about desert conditions!!
