  1. But to use it you must keep your feet in the syrups
  2. Wish they were waterproof above the top
  3. That's what I did and it has worked quite well. The biggest problem has been accessing them to check the SG of each cell, as they are on the starboard swim and being taller than the old 110Ahs, there ain't much room between the top of them and the underside of the deck above. Bob.
  4. Not had that problem but cyclists riding over them doesn't do them any good. So I put the plank or pole over it, that slows the cyclists down and if I smile nicely at them, they usually carry their bikes over, sometimes with a bit of huffing and puffing.
  5. Rain? What rain? Not sure what the air draft of a Norman with cruiser canopy is but apart from a few low lock bridges, there are a number of low bridges between Stourport and Stourton, especially Whittington Horse Bridge 28. Pray for better weather than 2012. A lovely canal, well worth the effort.
  6. That's what I have found on mine, a digital reader incorporated in the tacho on a Barrus. Edited to add that When it isn't displaying, I make a note of the hours run and usually find that it matches up fairly accurately when it decides to show itself.
  7. What specifically do you expect the CaRT council to have done for us in the short time since the organisation became a reality? What "quick fixes" are you looking for? And what, other than representing the interests of boaters in general, can we reasonably expect our elected representatives to do for an individual? Boater's organisations exist at least in part, to lobby authority, in this case CaRT, to deal with stated situations and are perhaps often better placed to represent the views of individuals that a direct approach to CaRT. Organisational (and the associated cultural) change does not happen overnight. CaRT is only a few months old. Some of the issues it is tackling are long overdue, e.g. overstaying on moorings in honey-spot areas but will not be dealt with quickly as it appears to be trying to do something BW would have avoided like the plague, by engaging with interested parties. So not a quick fix but signs of a willingness to make progress. A positive response was had to suggestions for improvements to handrails on footbridges in the Staffs & Worcs canal and the manner in which BW initially acted without consultation resulting in the creation of a hazard to boaters. The actions to repair breaches on the T&M were prompt and the initial results very positive. In fairness BW's response would probably have been as swift. The concerns about some council members conflicts of interest with their boaters group activities have been much commented upon, generally adversely. I think that the jury is still out on that. Wether such activities are to the detriment of one or the other (or indeed both) organisations remains to be seen. Hopefully it will be to the benefit of all users of the waterways. It will I suspect, be a year or three before we can reasonably see the benefits or otherwise of CaRT but in the meantime, we should be mindful that it is the people in CaRT who will by their actions or omissions, make or break it. My view is that we should support it with constructive criticism and see what results we get from that and not carp from the sidelines.
  8. Very encouraging. The staff, particularly those on the ground are to be congratulated.
  9. That's what I do and it works well. However, earlier this year, as I was replacing the sump plug, I screwed it hand tight, and as I finished it off with a ring spanner the b****y thing sheared off! Fortunately the hollow shaft came out quite easiliy by inserting a small file and twisting. Got a second hand replacement from a hire base a mile down the cut. Lucky or what? If this should happen to you, please note that PRM 150s have, over the years been made with more than one size of plug, so keep the bits!
  10. Congratulations to you both. You think it's good now; the best is yet to come. Very best wishes. Bob.
  11. JPs are always slow to cook. We usually start them off in the microwave and then foil wrap and put them on top of the engine whilst we carry on cruising for a few hours. Done slowly they are really tasty with a knob of butter.
  12. As a former social and commercial photographer, I frequently used the BCN as a backdrop for wedding photography, usually of the couple, sometimes with the b/maids & groom. In the late 90s I asked and BW confirmed that a licence was not required. For commercial work, an application had to be made, as there would be more equipment and people, so permission was required but I can't recall the fee. It was important if working on a public right of way not to obstruct it unless I had been granted a closure order, (never needed to). Unless you are taking the entire wedding party, plus guests to be photographed in Gas Street, I doubt you will have any problems. Apart from the weather! HTH
  13. Did you isolate the fuel supply before you removed the filter? I would clean/replace the filter, open the fuel line and see if that made any difference. If not, bleed each union in the supply line as you work towards the stove. Tedious but not too arduous.

    Appeal

I agree. The bottom line though is that we all want a viable canal system and given the financial and climatic difficulties we are encountering, I feel that my only option is to cough up a bit to help. A couple of pints I won't now be drinking.
  15. The sudden engine stop wouldn't be caused by an intermittent failure of the fuel lift pump would it?
  16. That is not how I understand it now but I think that BT operators can also identify the location by which transmitter your mobile is using.
  17. I would suggest renewing your membership. 'tis early days for CaRT and the relationship with IWA will take some time to develop. IWA members who became trustees did so as the result of a public vote. Candidates who didn't succeed had, in the main lower profiles than those who did. Anyone in any form of public/responsible position tends to become the subject of criticism by others, often without full knowledge of the facts. Whilst I understand the concerns about possible conflicts of interest, it seems to me that until CaRT has matured as a new organisation, hopefully over the next couple of years or so, conjecture on the CaRT/IWA relationship is pointless.
  18. I would add a couple of space blankets, the foil things to reduce heat loss, especially useful if there is a delay in the paramedics arrival. A GPS to enable an accurate position to be passed to the call centre. I usually make a note of our GPS when we moor, just in case of an emergency at night.
  19. Yes, online sales included according to their advert on the back of one of the comics.
  20. Forgive me Nick, Do you usually get wind at Christmas? Does a mudweight stop it completely? Bob.
  21. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  22. But do make sure you're well ahead of the boat behind.
