  1. Problem solved thanks. Alternator ok but connections from it to the isolation switch were dirty. Gave them a good clean and all is now well.
  2. Greetings All. I have a Barrus Shire 45 with twin alternators and a Travel Pack. Recently, on engine start, the 110 amp domestic, (4x110Ah batts), alternator has been slow to get beyond 14 volts and frequently failed to reach 14.6 volts. Today, having had the landline charger on, with the batteries fully charged I fired it up and the reading was 14.6 volts, rising to 14.9 volts, dropping after half an hour to 14.4 volts and rising twenty minutes later to 14.9 volts. Is this likely to be a failure of the alternator regulator? If so should any reputable "non-marine" repair shop be able to fix it? I am in Stourport on Severn and Cox's Electrical is a fair old drive. Thanks in anticipation. Bob.
  3. However, it should be noted that unlike Warfarin, Rivaroxaban has no antidote.
  4. Using a local fabricator in Stourport on Severn, I had a SS one made to fit beneath the bow cockpit earlier this year. Cost of cutting lockers out, removing old tiny tank, installing new and re-instating the deck and lockers was about £700.00. Very pleased with the result too.
  5. I have had a Draper like this http://www.drapertools.com/b2c/b2citmdsp.pgm?pp_skmno=06489&ipadd= for several years. Still works well and lives in the engine 'ole.
  6. I brush, sand, apply some Owatrol (sometimes) if there is some rust or primer, then paint a topcoat to protect. Wouldn't use Hammerite, it's difficult to overpaint. Although if you are taking the surface back to bright metal next year that may not be a problem. By the same token, if the damage is limited, you may wish to leave it until you do the full job. Good luck, Bob.
  7. Moor using springs and the boat won't budge. I use pneumatic wheelbarrow wheels when necessary. Earlier this year, having used one I put it on the roof. Some time later, after several hours of sunshine, the cover blew off the plastic rim with a bang, leaping a couple of feet into the air and then the tube exploded. I won't be putting it on the roof again.
  8. Spent several nights there earlier this year. A good location with few passers by. Remember to fill the water tank before entering, it is situated 100 yards or so before the entrance bridge.
  9. Yes, moor in their purpose built jetty, fill up from the red pump and make your own declaration. Never go by without filling or topping up. If you miss it, Norbury Junction try to match the price too.
  10. I have used Akwamat from the Edwardian Bedding Co for several years. It works well on the convertible dinette/double bed, where the table forms part of the base. You wouldn't want to drill ventilation holes through your table would you? It is a coarse fibrous material which tends to shed a few bits but does what it says it would. HTH Bob
  11. Taking on water just outside Coventry basin, watched by three very drunk eastern Europeans. The biggest decided that he wanted a pee and would do so in our loo! I physically stopped him from getting into the boat but had great difficulty in getting him off the counter. He spoke no English, was out of his brain and I (probably fortunately) couldn't reach a windlass to reinforce my message. Eventually the one who could speak English asked if I wanted his mate to leave and helped him to do so.
  12. Got my reminder early in April; renewed on-line on Tuesday 30 April; received new license this morning. What's not to like? Apart from the cost!
  13. I have a Shire 45, seven years old, 3000+ hours. I service it every 250 hours. I buy 25L drums of 10-40 API CC oil from Morris Lubricant Online. This year cost £90 with free delivery. The part numbers I have for filters etc are: Primary Fuel Yanmar 119802 - 55800 Unipart UGC- GFE 5370 Delphi 296 – HDF296 – 7111-296 Baldwin BF825 Secondary Fuel Yanmar 119802 - 55801 Unipart GFE- 5375 PartCo Alco SP-923 Filtermania Oil Yanmar 129150 - 35153 Unipart UGC- GFE 489 Anon SFO3802 Air Yanmar CA 9591 Crossland 8386 CA 9591 HTH Bob Edited to tidy up text from table.
  14. Hi Ipp2, welcome to the forum. If your boat is made of steel, you will require anodes. If it is wood or aluminium, it won't. Good luck. Bob.
  15. Come come, you shouldn't upset her, I'm sure that your wife is a pretty sight.
  16. Agree with the above comments. There are often several safe ways of doing the same thing and we found it was a good opportunity to discuss and try different techniques. Look http://www.rya.org.uk/coursestraining/courses/inland/Pages/InlandWaterways.aspx on the RYA website for details of a course near you. Bob.
  17. No, it's a sign of not being able to bend down with a pair of shears No offence intended. Bob.
  18. It's not so much about whether it's safe to use in a potable water tank now, as to what long term, i.e. decades, ill-health effects there may be.
  19. I don't think that I have ever used the same item twice but have had no trouble for all that. Bought from independents is much less expensive than "Barrus badged" consumables. I have a spreadsheet of codes for the different consumables used over the years on my Barrus 45. Doubtless not the same configuration/model/series as yours; that would be just too easy. Bob.
  20. Probably looking for a mooring.
  21. Had a similar problem with mine. Started off that I couldn't get BBC1 WM but could get everything else. Later, nothing. Changed all the kit and cables incrementally, even borrowed a friends receiver without success. Turned out it was the FreeSat card had failed. £20.00 for a new one and all was well again.
  22. Haven't used 'em since day one. Only got them in case of glass breaking rather than as a means of stopping low life getting in.
  23. You don't say to whom the £160 was paid. It may not have been CaRT but a landowner or scammer.
  24. Try You Tube Edited to remove repetition. Happens to mine after a period of idleness of a month or so. I turn it off, let it cycle through the power down sequences and then start it again, usually with no further problem. It's 7 years old and has been serviced once. HTH.
  25. Got ours from Worcester Windows when the boat was built. Easy to make your own though, using the glass as a template.
