  4. There was an almost identical thread a while back. Here is my contribution. https://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/79696-over-night-stops-between-ellesmere-and-llangollen/&do=findComment&comment=1665349
  5. Well it obviously made sense to the 13 people (so far) who gave it a greenie. Edited to say that those 13 didn't include me, as I don't entirely agree with Arthur's definition. I as usual agree with his views, but 'woke' has become a perjorative term because of all the extremists jumping on its bandwagon.

  8. I'm quite surprised that a call centre operator would have the authority to do that. On the occasions I've had a similar query/complaint, I've been passed (with considerable delay) to a Higher Authority.

  14. Are you hoping to catch some fish, then? Sorry.
  15. If you can't tell the sex of a haggis, you're not going to do very well with a llama. And llamas are very hairy - harder to find the bits.
  16. I just simply cannot imagine Neil behaving like that. However I did once encounter a lock keeper at Torksey who most certainly did. A bit of identity confusion has crept in here, methinks.
  17. No it isn't, thank goodness. Unless requested by the poster, I don't see it as up to the Mods to fix misspellings, especially if they are amusing. Edited to say that I'm referring to the one at the end of the original post. Or was pleural originally in the plural?
  18. Just found a pic of the (then new) sign at the offending lock.
  19. Your pic shows a lock on the Diggle flight. The lock causing the trouble is much further down, and IIRC has the normal arrangement of paddles, on both sides.

  21. There was a level warning indicator on the original lock in question last time I came through (3 years ago!), just like the indicators on river locks, but upside down, ie red at the bottom.
  22. Shire Cruisers, Sowerby Bridge, is 5 minutes walk from the station. But I have left my boat at about a hundred locations over most of the system. What I did was use Traveline to see how to get home to Scotland from wherever I was.
  23. Glad you made it. Nigel and Susan would go the extra mile to help. However, as I've visited, commented on and scored most of the pubs on your route in my 'Pub Cruise' series of posts on these forums, I would be interested if you could overcome your politeness and name the 'bloody awful pubs' to compare them with my opinion (admittedly from a different time).
