  1. Why didn't he throw it in the air, that would have given him a better chance to see if there was any room on top ? Normally all glass eye wearers are instructed about the proper use of their eyes, this chap must have forgotten the lesson. Peter.
  2. This is one of the "Better safe than sorry" examples, I'm sad to say that one of my friends who did steelwork for 30 years, without eye protection lost an eye a couple of years ago, and he's screaming at everone he can see through the only eye he has left now, and he's telling them how stupid they are, and how much he regrets not having used goggles or a mask then, but sadly enough his regrets don't give him his lost eye back. Good luck with the jobs that are left to be done on your boat. Peter.
  3. Just a bit of safety advise, when you're drilling or grinding always wear eye-protection, many people never do and always get away with it until......... Peter.
  4. Thank you very much for showing your beautiful artwork, Peter.
  5. Just discovered that I wrote "Linnet" which I copied from the text you wrote above the photo, while her name is "Linnit", I didn't look at the name that's painted on her. Peter.
  6. Good job,"Linnet" is looking like a soldier on parade. Peter.
  7. If it is a really old boat, on some of these they had a wet bilge, the shower drained directly into the bilge and sometimes handwash basins too. That could, and I hope is the reason for the serious amount of water you find in the bottom of your boat. As has been said, don't wait 2 years with finding out where it comes from, as the risk your boat ending up on the bottom is real. Peter.
  8. It's always a rather difficult choice to decide what would be the best investment with value for money in mind. Myself I just ordered a Kipor-IG2000 that I need for emergencies, like right now, while my build in 4kW diesel in a soundproof box, which is installed in the engineroom has a serious problem, with a worn out Dynastart. I luckely managed to find a brand new anker that I need for the Dynastart and new brushes, but I have to pick these up near Brussels, in the meantime I have to run one of the much too big DAF engines, just to charge the batteries, as the solar panels aren't giving enough in the dark days we've been having. The best choice if you can afford it (maybe at a later stage) would be a build in silent diesel generator, I've been very happy with mine, until my problems that started last week, as it's really very nice when you can start and stop the machine with the remote control, and have it permanently installed (theftproof) in the engineroom. One the genny is repaire, I hope that I don't have to rely to often on the Kipor IG-2000, but it's a reassuring idea to have a second means of charging my batteries without having to run one of the much to big engines that only have fairly low powered alternators fitted. Hope you'll find the perfect genset for your needs. Peter.
  9. My laptop is almost the same as I am myself, but it has a better memory, only can't speak (probably a good thing). Peter.
  10. I copied what your computer wrote for you, to show the mess it had made, while thinking that that would be clear for you to understand. Even while not eating that dish (as a vegetarian), I know how to write it, and so does my laptop . Peter.
  11. Your computer made a mess of the bœuf bourgignon too I suppose, as you will surely know how to write it Peter.
  12. There's no better answer than an answer from the man himself, so no need to look any further if you want a good quality hatch. Peter.
  13. If you want a good quality hatch, you could always give it another try, mails can get lost, and people can forget because they're just too busy, working hard to make a living. Peter.
  14. It's most unlikely that a prospective buyer for this boat would be looking for a boat that could take him/her round the world in reasonable comfort and safety. I bet that he/she just wants a good and comfortable luxurious boat to play with on the canals, and that money isn't a problem. Peter.
  15. Less than an hour doesn't look like a serious survey to me, he probably was there just long enough to check that the boat had a propellor fitted. I wonder what his survey report will say. Peter.
  16. Too bad I don't know all these people myself, but I know that they're all important members of some well known families Peter.
  17. As I didn't know about your independently-minded keyboard, and wouldn't know how to inform that, you are in a much better position to supply that information to your keyboard yourself. Btw, you can inform your keyboard that it didn't make a mistake writing "Godin". Peter.
  18. Just for your information, the make of that stove is Franco-Belge. Peter.
  19. For the sort of money they're asking, there may be a silver-magnet included in the list of equipment that comes with the boat. Peter.
  20. I dont think you'll tell me that that's yours is it ? Btw if I would talk about your boat I would say Sarah's "Chertsey" and not Harland & Wolffs "Chertsey. Possibly I would make it more clear by saying: "Sarah's Chertsey that was built by Harland & Wolff". Peter.
  21. I can imagine that Gazelle is tempting you, she has very graceful lines, I know that Ian Kemp built her, but unless he bought her back, he's not her owner. Peter.
  22. Good to see the finished result of your hard work Tom, I'm sure it was worth the effort. Peter.
  23. The classifications of "clean" cars is far from perfect, i seem to see more and more of the latest "clean" cars, bulging out quite a lot of black smoke. This probably happens when the drivers floor their accelerators while they are in a too high gear, and also because most of these "clean" cars have been driven a lot too much in cities, slow driving, traffic jams, short rides, which doesn't help their exhaust gasses filtering systems and they're often in the garage to sort out warning lights that come on every now and again, because of EGR and more serious problems. Myself, I can't afford these "clean" engined new cars, and still drive around in old and even non-turbo engined cars, and one Hdi car, whith an occasional warning light on, which has just been sorted. 2 of my old cars have just gone through their french M.O.T. and the guy that did the tests said that their exhaust gasses were clean enough to drive in Paris, but that I couldn't get a sticker to prove that, as they are based on the factories "Euronorm" which is year related. It's rather silly (in my eyes anyway) that an older lower powered car that's in perfect condition, and that's driven without flooring the accelerator isn't allowed to be used in the bigger cities anymore, while a new car say one of the more and more popular "Chelsea Cruisers" that are mainly used for short shopping trips, and never ever off road of course, are allowed to, because they are newer and have passed a better "Euronorm", but blow out a lot more dangerous particules with their much too powerfull engines for city driving. I'm happy that I had the luck of owning, and driving many very fast cars in my younger years, when there were hardly any speed limitations, and when nobody was worried about the possible polution they created. Now I hope that it will last my time before they'll make it impossible for an OAP on a very low pension, to drive his/her old but well maintained car, as buying an electric one is out of the question. (even more because I'm not on shore power, and running a genny to recharge the batteries would be Madness. Peter.
  24. Hi Tatguy, thanks for your update, if the photos you put up are of the same boat as the ones you put up in the beginning of your postings, then you're well on your way to become the proud owner of a very nice boat. Best of luck, Peter.
