  1. Ditto. I was a volunteer on the Thames but finished on Sunday. Now employed as Summer assistant from tomorrow. I haven't had much to say on this subject as I only had experience at one lock which is run by lock keeper during working hours. Even here there are different levels of experience by boaters and volunteers and allowances should be made. I would have welcomed help on K & A on bank holiday weekend. Indeed there was an nattily dressed man assisting at one lock but he didn't seem official ( unless CaRT has a new waistcoat range for uniform) He had his own windlass and he wasn't afraid to use it. Paul

  3. Saw this in Newbury today and got talking. Brian is heading down K&A towards Basingstoke. I thought he had some great stuff and asked if he minded if I posted here. No connection but hopefully useful info. If you see him say hi Paul
  4. Sorry to hear that. I saw you through Sonning yesterday. Fyi later in the afternoon a single handed lady came through and said she had come through county lock (in the morning) and was more worried about the Thames. A lot of the lower Thames now on reds. Hope you endure your forced rest. Paul
  5. Having loads of errors. Only way to access is to come in through google. Paul

  7. IMHO you are over worrying. Enjoy the trip and listen to local advice from boaters and lockies. Keep away from wiers ;-) Paul

  9. Fascinating . Especially on this acronym encrusted day. Paul
  10. Not going anywhere at the moment. Loads of reds out. Just seen a dutch barge ( ebony pearl ) will be coming up the k&a soon as he can remove wheelhouse. He just scrapped under Sonning bridge. Have fun. Paul
  11. Unfortunately I find the cost to be quite reasonable compared to local area My daughter died just before Xmas and the local parks don't allow any sort of memorials. The local crematorium charge thousands for a lease ( from 1 to 10 years only for hire of plaque) Hopefully I an likely to get a tree planting done with local housing association. Paul
  12. Ah well as long as I know your point of view . For a moment I just thought you might join me in the grumpy old man corner. Paul
  13. I cant believe you can't believe it. I believe that's the point of these threads... building on the experience of others . In my case I like the fire to stay on all night. On the few occasions that I have closed down further it just goes out. Paul
  14. My squirrel needs both vents opened 360 degrees with supatherm in it and it stays alight all night. I am given to understand that different fuels need treating differently and I suppose each stove will handle differently also. Paul
  15. I have just had a result on the other forum regarding missing notifications. It appears my emial provider has changed spam settings and all my notifications for that forum were going straight to spam folder. Worth a check. Paul
  16. All ok on my side. Paul However on another forum powered by phpBB I don't get any .sod's law Paul

  18. Took me months of physio and exercises to shift mine. Hope you can avoid that. Paul
  19. I bought an adapter and have toothbrush plugged in normal 240v socket. I don't need it on charge at all times but it has been left for days at a time. Paul
  20. Thanks all. I will try the suggestions on here when I return to the boat if it hasn't sorted itself out " in the mix " Paul
  21. Hi, Due to an unexpected problem at home I have had to leave my boat and will not be able to continue to live onboard. I managed to empty the water system and thought I would check my radiators for antifreeze. Shock horror and so I drained as much as I could and then refilled with a strong mix ( about 60% antifreeze ) . When bled and pump turned on and boiler started all I get is hot water at the bottom and cold at the bottom. I have tried to bleed any air but only water is coming out of the top of the radiator. It has been suggested that the antifreeze mix is sitting at the bottom of the radiators and plain water at the top .I will try to get the whole system flushed and refilled with a 50/50 mix but cant do that till next week . I was hoping that someone might think of some wheeze I havent thought of to save me trying full flush. Hopefully. Paul Cooke.
  22. Hi. Just to update. I have this installed for a couple of months now and have to advise that the magnetic tape could be cut in short lenghts to go around a curve BUT in my case the main problem is the cr*ppy glue on the magnetic strips which have almost all given up! Can I suggest using another method of fixing or you will probably end up taking remedial action and/or using a better glue. Paul
