  1. Jake is ALSO a Norseman, 1976 and 60', and is ALSO a cow to reverse. The only time it went well was backing 1/2 a mile round a sharp bend, when the cut was very low, leaving either the channel or dry mud. Nobody watching tho' !
  2. Smoothrite is no good on bright steel. Its adhesion relies on the bonding of the products of the iron oxide to phospate conversion reaction. Its OK on rusted steel, but is very brittle and EXPENSIVE.

  4. KAL 554 is not on the current DVLA list as a Hillman, tho' it might have been transferred, so the car might still exist. My mums Co-op number was 480, so can't use that as a PIN. But the Mirror dinghy my Dad built in the dining room had a 4 digit mnumber which I DO use as a PIN. Three gallons for £1 (ie 6/8 a gallon) - the first fuel I bought for my BSA Bantam at 16. By the way, a rag and bone man came down our street last Saturday.
  5. What is the 12V amp you have bought ? Has it got controls or is it a power amp as used by the "car hi-fi wars" lads ?

  7. Beware that anything aluminium will "walk" if left unattended if there are diddycoys about.
  8. They'll have built a by-pass round Rugby and altered the signage so that you go the LONG way (unless you know better and get a map out !)

  10. I thought the "Hep02" fittings referred to were the brass compression types commeonly used where you can't use solder ring (Yorkshire) couplings. Sorry for any confusion.
  11. The copper pipes harden with age and become "stronger", wheras the brass in the couplings gradually get weakened by zinc dissolving out in the water. Its probably easier to have the couplings as a weak link, eaiser to replace than long lengths of pipe.

  17. My Fraud diesel car is 10 years old and is not a common rail design. But I reckon good quality, high lubricity fuel is important to long life of the fuel pump. On supermarket derv I get about 450 miles to the tankful, which is 2 weeks of travelling to work up a motorway, so it all gets nice and hot. On BP standard grade I get at least 75 miles more so I reckon it pays for itself. Also it starts cleaner and quicker so I only use te cheap stuff if I'm stuck. I havent tried the expensive Ultmate grade enough to give exact data. Ed for clarity

  20. Vehiclw Wiring Products (www.vehicleproducts.co.uk) do both battery cable and crimp / screw connectors, but I must admit they may be a light duty foir some requirements.
  21. I bet if you bother to report it to the Police they'll say they have nothing to go on ! In all seriousness, I'm afraid the world is always a very nice place.

  23. Still got mine. And my Meccano. And my Scalextric. Never had a rail layout until my children came along. SWMBO says that explains a few things (tho' she still has her own Bayco too).
