  1. Selby Boat Centre will have a crane in on 8th August lifting boats out for transport or blacking. The crane that is booked will lift boats up to 25 tonnes. Anyone wanting a lift in that area can contact SBC on 01757 212211. Please note we have no commercial interest in SBC. Our vested interest is simply that the more boats lifted on the day, the less is our share of the crane hire to lift Sara out for transport South!
  2. Three days and no votes for composting loos? Had to come out of retirement to put that right - the Separett loo is excellent!
  3. Sounds like an extended version of our Separett Loo. Must be very good for improving individual muscle control! Edited to add: I've just had an attack of subconcious lateral thought - the "View new content" link has taken on a whole new meaning!
  4. Not sure why an '98% efficient 500 watt' unit would need a pair of fans built in! Should only be sinking 10 watts at full load...
  5. Not sure about not using seat belts for short journeys - how about just not using the car for short journeys? Walk, cycle, catch a bus?
  6. For a performance motorcycle you are quite possibly right. High revs, high performance, engines that last 50,000 miles if you're lucky. These need all the help they can get. I wouldn't put anything but the best in my bike. But for a boat diesel engine, rarely doing much more than 2 or 3 thousand revs and maybe 200 hours per year. Why would you pay £50 plus for the oil?
  7. Mike's good, did our pre-purchase survey and more recently our BSC. He trades as Blue Star Surveys
  8. The OP did ask about the UK, not England. There may be some upset Scots and Northern Irish along shortly...... I do like the Crinan canal!
  9. Do BW claim anywhere that the penalty reflects the cost of collecting a late payment? Is it not just part of the charging structure for a BW licence? Bottom line is if you don't like the charging structure, don't buy the product and don't keep a boat on BW water!...
  10. We don't have a tickover - so do we have to stop to pass moored boats?
  11. Best thing for a good connection is a contact adhesive like Evostik. That's why its called contact adhesive......
  12. We've visited Braunston a couple of times, not had any trouble but did comment on the high proportion of the 'superior pompous snotty git' type of boater. If some of these have got up the noses of the local yoof I'm not surprised there is bother.
  13. One of the advantages of the Yorkshire Navigations is that we don't see many of those signs. We're presently moored at our favourite spot just upstream of the Went aquaduct, New Junction. Just been passed by Humber Princess in the dark - biggest headlight you ever saw! Sara dropped a foot, rose two, then settled back to normal. I've just been out to check our four BIG mooring pins - no problem. But definitely my responsibility to moor appropriatley for the passing traffic.
  14. Nor even one saying "Actually all the boats are properly moored so you could have passed at normal speed".....
