  1. It would indeed, but i suppose they may give inaccurate readings.I am sure someone will be along to give the correct explanation.

  3. I think they used some sort of matting to line a restored part of the lichfield canal. just looked yes bentonite matting was used for part of the lichfield canal as an experiment so it might well be the matting used in the picture.
  4. probably needs to be illuminated if it is to be read at ALL times from that distance.
  5. If you read the blog for narrow boat caxton they have recently had it done .It looks good but i do not think it is a cheap option
  6. It is an extinct volcanic hill in Shropshire not far from wroxchiter roman town,it has an old hill fort on the top of it, and is possibly associated with Arthur, like so many other places.
  7. I think something like that is long overdue.I have often thought about being able to perhaps take on a historic narrowboat but it is then how to improve its condition and how to maintain it that becomes an issue, the is nowhere to maintain or learn how to do so.Would the boatyard at the Blackcuntry museum be a possibility? No access to wide beam boats i guess would be a problem with somewhere in that location.
  8. i think it is the verdigris that forms on it that can cause problems. They did a series on a period kitchen a few years back and all the food cooked in the copper pans had to be thrown out because the coppers had not been kept clean and polished throughout it,s life.
  9. working 21 hours a week would mean working 21 hour more than i do already, but i would take that as as an alternative to living entirely off my savings.

  14. there is a springers owners site on facebook Springer-Owners-Unite somebody on there may be of help.
  15. is it still awaiting a decision on it's future?
  16. So you could expect to put an old work boat back to good condition for that amount of money? Never really seen the costs involved for restoring such a boat.
  17. that does seem fair as then the services will then be provided by the council. I wounder if there new obligations to boaters will reduce there enthusiasm to go down this route?
  18. sorry just putting forward a possible reason for the complaint not commenting on the right or wrong of it. If it is in an inconvenient place then it should be cleaned up. I am old enough to remember when there were very few rules about dog fouling, and have stepped in the odd turd annoying yes! a disaster no.Human nature being what it is the person told off would have complained to BW about smoke not what she was her criticized about.Just a story that fits there are many others i am sure. funny how people put a biodegradable substance into a non biodegradable bag, a trowel would be better in many cases.
  19. how this for a scenario.A lady walks her dog along the tow path. At some point along the walk the dog answers the call of nature which the lady fails to clear up.Out strides a boater and tells her in no uncertain terms what they think about her not doing so.Angry embarrassed lady rings BW.
