  1. i wish you many years of trouble free meandering very envious.
  2. Is it a secret which historic craft you are associated with? Could you not post here in a forum which is full of people who like the waterways exactly what you are doing, which craft you are at the moment rebuilding.Looking at the pictures from somebody who enjoyed the visit showed lots of sunken and half sunken boats, wilest i will applaud you for the boats you have saved i would suggest the ones you have done nothing to, should be on offer to anyone who is prepared to to spend money on them to return them back to working order, better that than slow diintergration. In a marina not a 100 miles from me there are a couple of sunken Narrowboats is this then a museum? Working in a historic garden as i do as a volunteer i see a certain unreality creeping in when talking to the employed staff and trustees of the charity,by there very nature they are somewhat removed from reality. What our garden needs is strong backing [financially] and guidance as to it's future role, i would suggest that this is so for the Museum as well, Re National trust/English Heritage type support. There are 5 full time staff working very hard at our Gardens and numerous volunteers doing the best they can, but not being able to do enough to keep the gardens tip top, so you do what you can.I feel that this is the same for the museum.I feel proud of what we are able archive but sad that so much goes undone.
  3. There was an earlier thread from somebody that had visited the museum publishing photo's from the site. The thing that came across most strongly was the boats with weeds growing out of them or much unloved and rotting away hulks. This award seems to be for the written archives and not the rest of it,i have never been but what i see makes me sad. contrasting it with the tram museum pictures posted earlier just shows how far it has to go.
  4. Could they not make the boats moor on the opposite side of the canal,or a lock keeper and a Policeman either end of whatever length is deemed vulnerable? Reference the security guard. They might have the right to stop you taking pictures but they canot insist on seeing them same with the Police, neither can insist you delete them either.
  5. Agreed but Birmingham was the third most bombed after London and Liverpool it was hushed up at the time so as not to demoralize the Nation and aid German intelligence and Coventry was sacrificed to aid the war.The town planners have done an even better job of destroying Birmingham and Coventry than the German bombs though.
  6. just wait to the American Team arrive in Birmingham The whole center will be closed off.We should have let Paris stage them.
  7. Spent 3 weeks camping on the isle of eigg many moons ago absolutely fantastic place.this was back in the seventies
  8. looking at the bid history the reserve on Aynho was quite high indeed the heritage hopper is up to 1000 pounds and still has not reached it's reserve.
  9. It is what our council seems best at loads of flash then quietly let it die
  10. I believe the Historic Inland Working boats site [yahoo group] has had a discussion on this, breifly there was a mix up at Tisly were the boats were due to go for repair and so were returned to Bw also there appears to be no VAt payable on the boats unless i am misreading the imfo in the boat discription.I emailed the auction people regarding if aynho had an engin, they are trying to find out for me it is apparently a late entry to the auction.
  11. saw a science program where they sank a boat at sea using bubbles
  12. There is a heritage hopper near the top of the list that states that it needs repairing and low down at the bottom there is a riveted iron Hopper would this not also be considered a Heritage hopper? Also Effingham was at one stage i believe being taken to Tisley to be repaired, why is that not listed as in need of repair ditto Pinner there does not seem to be a great deal of consistency of description. The picture do help as would a visit to them, just a bit disquieting to potential bidders.
  13. They do not from this picture appear to be black, slightly darker than white so blue is a possibility if it is a pale blue at a guess but the print seems a bit washed out in the cabin area. Interesting that the building in the background is heavily buttressed and has a bricked up arch evident
  14. As you go backwards you shout bleep at the top of your voice at the required intervals Sound mad!!
  15. Tansy flowers and wormwood have been used in the past to discourage insects It might stop them coming on board
  16. i have quite often been nearly hit whilst on pavements.People pull off the road to park half off half on the pavement still going at road speed or only a little slower. The system you describe must be treated with the same caution as a country lane with no path as the drivers will consider it thus and the 5 mile an hour sign will not slow them any  :
  17. An interesting site with a lot of good information on it but they have called a Viking long ship a Viking longboat,it not really something that worries me much but it repeats the mistake that they are they are warning others of ,misnaming things. Taylor's are lovely boats.
  18. Maybe the hard winter we have just had will kill off some of these things,or at least weaken them.
  19. watched it an enjoyed it. informative and layed back, just right for a Sunday.
  20. The ebay listing has ended so i guess it is sold as i think it had a few days to run.Either that or they have had a great many inquires.
  21. There is somebody going to see her today so it might be gone, apparently as said in the advert some of the bottoms need replacing some do not.His internet connection is down, so he has to get messages relayed by the way. Is the hull of ian fairly sound or does the paint work flatter it do you think?
  22. would replacing the keel stone cost as much as replacing the whole bottoms do you think if done by a boat builder?
  23. I believe the hydrogen is produced by sustainable methods but the storage of it uses some vary rare materials.
  24. My condolences. Anybody that risks their lives helping others are remarkable.
